Friends not visible to me

Very early in the life of my day one Xbox One, I added two of my friends to my favorites list. Since then, I can't see them online at all, ever. I have talked to them and they weren't appearing offline (other friends could see them) and haven't blocked
me (they are my buddies in real life and we game frequently - also I had them check). I only ever know they are online because they send messages or invites. They are the only two that I know I'm having this problem with (but then I wouldn't necessarily
know who I couldn't see), but I have one or two friends who can't see random other friends.

In the months since launch I have added a couple of other friends to favorites and have not had the issue. I only added that info in above in case there was a known bug early on. I kept expecting it to be one of the launch bugs that was fixed in a patch,
but no such luck. I hope someone can help, because this is supremely annoying.

Friends locaion and bio not visible!

It may be a privacy issue check your accounts privacy settings too insure that you are able too see there Bio / Motto (360 Only) / Location. If that still isn't a issue also ask them if there privacy settings forbid them from users seeing there Bios / Mottos
(360) / Locations. i'd also check the 360 if you still own one to insure both consoles are experiencing this problem.

 

Is it possible they're appearing offline? To check, have them go to their profile and the first option is (for me) 'Appear Offline'. It's possible they pressed it by mistake and it would explain why you can't see them.

Have you also tried removing them from your favourites list? It seems to be a possible cause for your issue so removing them from that list might rectify it. You could also try removing them as friends and then readding them.

I don't think he is appearing offline because others can see them. I removed them from the friends list and will let you know if that worked (neither have been online since I tried it). Thanks for the suggestions.

 

Sorry to leave this for so long, but it took a while for my buddy and I to sync up our gaming. The "remove friend then add friend" accomplished nothing. I still couldn't see him.

However there is a happy ending to this story. He happened to get on his Xbox 360 where he had his profile set to "always appear offline." Well apparently this carries over to the One (and overrides its settings). We tried every permutation of settings
on the One, but when he changed his 360 settings...presto. I will try it with my other friend to confirm that is the issue in two out of two cases, but I think that is the thing.

tl:dr version: Check your Xbox 360 settings to make sure it isn't set to "always offline."
