Friends appearing without my consent

Whenever I let a friend use my console, or use theirs, our friends list merge together, my friends get added to his, his get added to mine. I've been told by a fellow gamer in support to just delete them, which we have. But everytime we use each others consoles, the friends return. This is news, this has not happened before so not sure if it's part of an update.

I don't want his friends on my friends list as all my settings are for friends only. How can I prevent his friends from being automatically added to my account?

Yes, and the problem followed me from the UK to the US, where even though I had deleted all his friends from my list they re-appeared.

the only "fix" so far has been to log in to the Xbox website, and delete the friends from the profile there. So far they haven't returned, but it's definetely a bug since a update as it has not happened in the other times I've visited him and vice versa.

People add you as a follower, you don't see them on your friends list until you add them too.

let them add you, but don't add them back.

That way they are not on your friends list.
