Friend refunded a gifted game, the same game on his end was refunded aswell for no reason

So this happened earlier yesterday (Feb 27, 2021)

My friend Jordan, whom I'm game sharing with bought us both Grand Theft Auto V, he also gifted the game to our other two friends Luciano and Lewie who are also gamesharing, but he made a mistake and sent it to our friend Lewie who is international, who had some personal issues and couldn't redeem the code, so Jordan refunds the game and sends it to Luciano instead because they would have the game anyway. No problems right? He confirmed the refund of the gifted game through email, all is well. Later that day, we find out that we can't launch GTA V because it says we need to buy the game, which is strange considering we were playing earlier that day even after he refunded the gifted copy of the game to our friends, and he never got an email nor confirmed that he wanted to refund his own copy of the game, so my question is: What the hell happened? Why was our game refunded aswell?

First and foremost the "home xbox" feature was never intended to be used for gamesharing with friends.

It was implemented to allow households with more than 1 Xbox to be able to play the same game across two different Xbox One systems you own so that you didnt have to buy the same game twice.

Using it to share games with friends/outside of the household was never what it was intended for and is actually a bannable offense if you get caught (it can be considered markeplace theft)

So id honestly stop gamesharing because its just not worth the risk of losing your account and anything youve ever purchased just to save a little bit of money.

That being said im not quite sure what happened with the refunds and why it refunded his own copy of GTA V and not just the one he gifted. That is strange indeed.

Hi, your friend will have to ask for a refund. unfortunately, it's not possible to gift games in another region.

As per the terms of the gift once redeemed it can't be refunded

Gifts can only be refund if it hasn't been redeemed

If any of those conditions are met.you cannot refund it

The refund policy otherwise only apply for Purchased games not gifted games under 14 days or 2hours of gameplay

Gift games.conditions are unused or Same region as the gifter that's it

This is the same with any giftcard
