Friend receiving my rewards!?

So recently in the past couple days me and my friend were playing on my XBox One and he received a simple message from Microsoft.

It stated something along the lines of "Because of your constant support and play of Halo: The Master Chief Collection you are receiving a FREE month of xbox live gold membership"... Now I could care less about my friend receiving something as simple
as a month.

But here's the kicker!!! I was the one who bought the game, with my account. Now his account happens to be on my home Xbox, but I am baffled at why my friends account is getting the luxury of rewards from Microsoft when his account isn't even linked
to the purchase of the game. HELL, I've gotten more gamerscore and time sunk into it!?

Again, not really bothering me and making me scream "I HATE XBOX!!!! BLEH BLEH BLEH". But honestly, why is someone else receiving benefits for something I bought and play on an often basis compared to someone who just happens to have access to it because
he's played on my xbox???

Missing rewards

all my Xbox friends are receiving 5 $ Holliday rewards on their Xbox messages and I am wondering why I did not receive one

Never received rewards

Im confused about Xbox Rewards. I have Xbox friends receiving them and making less purchases than myself. I have never been credited any rewards. My account has been going strong since xbox 360. I domt understand why im not receiving any points.

The compensation for the Halo issues are being sent out to people who played the game during a specific time period. So you don't necessarily have to purchase the game to receive the free month.
