    Freezing on boot up, new thermal paste?


    360 fat model freezes on startup and mid game, will new thermal paste help this problem?

    Hard Drive Issue

    I have one of the new Xbox consoles (not the slim, but the black one). I have been trying to boot up the system and I get to the dashboard screen and it immediately freezes on me. I took the steps in the 'Freezing' troubleshooting area. When I take out the
    250gig hard drive, it boots up fine, however, I cannot clear any cashes or anything like that because I don't have the drive in. If I put it back in, it keeps on freezing up on me. Any ideas on how to get it working again?

    Oh dear! It's freezing on startup? Please try removing all accessories (Including hard drive if you have one) and attempt to boot it up that way.

    It might help if the processor getting too hot is the cause.

    Opening the box to repair it will result in it being banned once you go online with it.

    Yeah...good point: there is a clause in TOU that says, in effect, you cannot open the console for any reason. Including self-repair. If you try that eventually MS will get the signal from the sensors in the 360 that it has been opened and...poof! instant
    banhammer!

    BTW if you doubt this, it is well documented here and on other sites.

    There are no sensors in the 360 that can detect if it's been opened. I've had to repair mine and those of a couple of my friends over the years. last I checked, around Christmas time, the console wasn't banned.

    I really don't know how these rumours get started and spread as fact.

    That being said you can't discuss self repair on the forum, so the discussion is moot anyway.

    I have the same problem!! I thought it was over heating, because from cold it plays for 5 minutes fine, then freezes. you reset it, then it doesn't get passed the boot screen. Was there any solution to this? I have resat the heat sink with new thermal artic
    silver paste, but it still freezes on boot up screen and some times the screen pixelates.

    Is it possible to reflow the mother board? If so how exactly do you do this? Temperatures, times and where should I direct the heat at?
