    Freesync over original Xbox

Should an HDMI to Display-port adapter allow me to access the variable refresh rate option?

Currently, I have an ASUS MG248QR, this allows me to access freesync and its 144hz range.

I have an HDMI to Display-port adapter (Compliant with VESA Dual-Mode DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 1.4 and HDCP) which allows me to activate it's adaptive sync on my monitor. However, on the Xbox One the Variable refresh rate option is
    currently grayed out.

At this time, is my only option to buy a gaming monitor that allows freesync 1 over HDMI exclusively? Or upgrade my Xbox One to an X or S?

I will also add that I have an older Xbox One model. No S or X. I'm a bit stumped, because at this time, the only thing that's holding up the whole thing from working is my xbox one.

I would like more information/guidelines on do's and don'ts when it comes to Freesync as well.

    :)

  2. FreeSync on an older Xbox One (not X or S)?

Yes, all Xbox One models will be getting Freesync support. At the time of this posting, Freesync is available in ALL preview rings right now, so if you're in the Insider Program and you have a Freesync-supported display, this should be worth checking out
    and testing.

One thing to note is there is a slight difference with the Freesync support on the different console models though:

    • The Xbox One S/X will get Freesync 2 support (with HDR).
    • The original Xbox One will get Freesync support (the first version of Freesync).

    Freesync over original Xbox

    Hi there,

as far as I know it will be depending on the adapter too, most (if not all) will NOT be able to have the console recognize that the monitor will support free-sync. I myself have an adapter and that is Not recognizing the feature at all.

Regarding which consoles will support freesynch, the testing was limited to the S or X the orginal Xbox One didn't have the option in testing.

So I'm not entirely sure if it does or doesn't support the feature.

It doesn't say any limitation type of console for freesync on this page:
    https://support.xbox.com/xbox-one/console/adjust-display-settings

    in this section specifically:

    Allow variable refresh rate

Variable refresh rate (VRR) technologies are used to dynamically adjust the refresh rate of a display on the fly to reduce stuttering and screen tears while playing games. VRR is only available when connected to a TV that supports either HDMI-VRR or
    AMD FreeSync.

My assumption is that the cause will be the adapter no matter what console you are using (X, S or original One)

I hope this will help a bit in the search for information

    According to the
    news about the April update
, the whole Xbox One family (including the original Xbox One) supports Freesync, with the Xbox One S and X models also supporting Freesync 2 with HDR.

Maybe your Display Port adapter is preventing the console from properly detecting the Freesync capable monitor.

It would definitely be helpful to get an official word on it. Because, the last thing I want to do, is bend myself backwards to extend the life of my original Xbox One by doing these extra little things. When they can just outright tell me, "Freesync does
not work with the original Xbox." so I could then save the money and put it in a S or X.

Sucks that I just missed that trade-in offer recently too.

That's what I'm thinking as well.

However, when the Xbox is plugged into the DisplayPort of my Monitor... the Adaptive Sync is turned on automatically in my Computer Monitor. Which wasn't the case prior to adding the adapter.

It just can't detect the console... or the console just doesn't know that the monitor it is connected to can display Freesync. It's all a bit murky and granted--it's an older model and I could use an upgrade soon. But VRR is a neat little feature, that I'd
feel like its worth trying out anyways even IF I ended up upgrading the console in the upcoming months. Just to see if it worked with my Xbox One. *sigh*

I just was hoping that this method would've worked and I could hang on to my 3 year old model for another year or two.
