    When I try and play warzone it will always try and load me into the Muiltiplayer of ModernWarfare and it tells me to buy Xbox Live and wont let me get into Warzone even though its now free to play.

    the campaign is not free, the game consists of warzone, campaign and other, only warzone is free to play, you need to purchase the full game to access all the other content.

    Yes, Warzone can be played without Core because it's a free-to-play game. The new Call of Duty is not a free-to-play game so it requires Core.

    To be able to play online you'll still need Xbox Live Gold. Even though the COD Warzone game is free.

    Warzone is unfortunately only online.

    warzone was replaced with warzone 2, the reason the entire game downloads is warzone shares a lot of assets with the main campaign and multiplayer sides of the game which are only available when purchased, when you load the game all three show up but as not owned you get to play the free to play parts which is primarily warzone. you can change a setting so it goes straight to warzone only instead of showing the main menu.
