Free One Month Gold

Was hit with a free one month of gold by xbox live through my messages. From my understanding this isn't supposed to happen since I'm not a new account and I've been on xbox live and have had gold for a good period of time. Not as of now though, i'm silver.
So why am I seeing this? My other account that I've had and sometimes do play on didn't get targeted with this message. I dunno if its some bizarre money trick to get me to buy gold, because its on sale but that won't work. Either way its upsetting you guys

One month free gold

I did actually do that before posting this.

First I got in touch with a dude who had no clue what he was talking about, repeating things like a robot (reading from a script) and wasted a half an hour of my life trying to convince me to by one year gold membership.

So I requested to speak to a supervisor who showed up some 10 min later and told me that the only way to do that is to create new account (new profile, new email etc...) - which I do not really want.

Must be a simpler way for doing that on my current account. It is clearly a *** up on their side.
