Free October 2015 Games on Gold a Waste of Time and Effort

This month's games on Xbox Live Gold for 360 users has been a total waste of time and download data.

The first part of the month offered Metal Gear: Solid - which turns out to only be a small part of the full game.

The second game on offer was The Walking Dead - full season. Imagine my surprise when I couldn't download it because "it is not supported in my region". Further investigation by consulting with a support centre, I found out that you have to actually own
the first season already in order to benefit from this free game download. Are you kidding me???

Firstly I cannot find the game to download and if I manage to find it, I cannot download it. How stupid Xbox. I'm so disappointed.

Please make better decisions in future with the games you offer for free to the members that have paid for the service you have offered.

You cannot offer free games when they don't come free or form part of a game as a whole. This is ridiculous that I cannot make use of a service I've paid for.

I'm playing it on the 360 and it unlocked at the start of sequence 6. Think it's the same on the X-Bone. Can check with the guys on that forum.

!!!! really D? I just started the game (since it just came out 12 hours ago on xbox one) when do you unlock that =o?

 

The first game being short, that's the developer's call, not Microsoft.

As for the second game, what is your region?

 

I'm in South Africa. Even searching for the First Season on the Xbox Market Place is not so easy. When I find it and try to download it, it says it's not supported in my region. So even if I wanted to buy the first season to make use of the extra free seasons
on Gold, I can't.

I can deal with the first game issue around Metal Gear: Solid. After all, we are getting a "free" game. It was a fun 2.5 hours of game time.

But to have a second game in the month be a total unobtainable option is just not cool man.

 

That can't be right for season 1. I bought it with a differnt account so I will try to download it with this account to see if it works and let you know.

 

I spoke to Xbox support centre and this was the feedback I got. You have to own season 1 to receive the Gold offer of the rest of the seasons. I have also spoken to a friend who is having the same problem. You cannot get season 1 on the marketplace via PC
or off the console. In fact, from the console, it only shows Episdode 3, 4 and 5 Plus 400 Days.

I appreciate you looking into this though. I was so looking forward to this game and needless to say I'm rather disappointed at this outcome. If there is a way around it, I'm watching this space.

 

I think you received a bad answer from support. It sounds like they didn't know what to say. I have never owned it with this profile. I used this profile and it downloaded no problem.

I'm still not sure why it won't work for you. I searched on the net and couldn't find anything. I sent Telltale a tweet so hopefully they'll respond. If they do ill post here or message you. I just asked if it was available in South Africa. If it is then
we can try to see what else we can come up with.

Just a quick question though. I know you are physically is S A but is the consoles region set there as well? Could it be set to a different location?

 

I forgot to mention I do own season 2 with this profile so not sure if that makes a difference.

 

you were fed incorrect information. I downloaded it and played fine without ever having owned it before. Only difference between us is regions.

 

As, iBakez was saying, I too never owned the game but was able to successfully download it. What the support person was saying (which may or may not be accurate information) is that perhaps you would need to own the first chapter in your region to be able
to download the following chapters because its not a game that supported in your region but the other chapters could be unlocked if you had the first one on our console already via a disc(which i don't know if they even created a disc for it) or if you had
your console in a different region and downloaded it previously. Not sure either way just shooting some guesses.

 

You may want to hit the suggestion/feedback forums and request that games and gold list the regions blocked.
