  1. Free-map mode: when all buttons are digital

First of all I'd like to say the Xbox Adaptive app is really good with accepting digital buttons in analog ports like left trigger and right trigger. Basically the idea is that if you plug a digital button into the LT and RT it'll treat it as either 100% or 0. It does not enforce the analog nature of that button for that port to work on the Adaptive controller.

Now certain games may not work right if you have a digital controller and it's expecting an analog input. I don't know if I have many or even any games that would qualify as requiring an analog trigger in order to beat.

I understood why the accessories app won't let you map a trigger to a non-trigger or vice versa. You don't want to get into quality control issues about whether or not someone is cheating or digging themselves in an impossible hole to get out of when assigning a digital to an analog or vice versa.

Is it one of the reasons why Xbox took the lead on overriding game settings is because it's better for game setting issues to be handled in a centralized place like the system owners like Xbox and that's by individual publishers and studios. In other words it's easier for players to deal with one party the system maker Xbox then it is the deal with individual publishers and developers and if it's a frequent thing that needs to go on to multiple publishers and developers it would be just easier dealt with at the system level.

Maybe there should be a free map mode if you know the game will work with all digital buttons like most fighting games and other classic arcade games.

What you gain in the free map mode is if you're willing to say do not read these buttons analogly but read every button digitally then you have the ability to freely mix and match the mapping of triggers and non-triggers so that certain arrangements like the six Genesis arrangement would be possible on the Sega Genesis collection because currently it is impossible because the triggers are emulator fast forward and rewind and always cause a row of four in row of two staggering on most fight sticks that cannot be avoided.

The only way this works is if it is manually selectable by the player and a game is given a analog trigger necessity rating.

Obviously a green signal for necessity means that the developer and publisher confirm that all buttons are digital and it would be their pleasure to allow free mapping.

A red signal means that the publisher or developer has confirmed that the game will either be an imbalancing cheat, making it way too easy to be the game / achieve certain achievements, or the other extreme of making a game impossible to win without going back to analog triggers.

Any yellow signal means preferred but not hard enforced. The developers or publishers confirm that you are at a severe disadvantage if you don't have analog controls but it's not considered worth enforcing or anything like that.

So green means All Digital is okay yellow means you need analog but they're not enforcing it and red means they're enforcing analog requirements for that game.

As I said before the benefits of allowing All Digital mode is that suddenly every button is remappable to each and every other button instead of triggers just sticking with triggers and non-triggers sticking with non triggers.

As I understand I understand the reason why the current state exists and I think this would be a way to address the issue at a system level.

Also because the Adaptive controller does accept analog inputs for the left trigger and right trigger, I'm personally not affected by it much but other people might be or if I'm visiting someone else's house I might be.

    :)

i'm sorry but no one from engineering reads this for him, it's a consumer tech-support forum.

Your best bet would be contacting the developers of the games that don't treat digital switches for analog correctly and ask them to fix it. On some games I don't think that would work well, analog input is intrinsic to the game Forza, but it probably would for many games.

I would suggest that in a shooter it might not be something they would wish to enable because it would give people a competitive advantage

There are already games where the adaptive controller gives you an unfair advantage. I've seen it with my own eyes on my partner's setup where you can set things in such a way that a normal hard task becomes far easier. i'm sorry I can't go into details :)

your best avenue is a consumer to engineering is through the Xbox request thread on Reddit, please follow the link below

I was talking about the opposite problem: where a fight stick cannot be arranged in true Sega Genesis / Capcom Fighter fashion, two rows of three, because the two triggers are on the bottom row on the outside and cannot be moved to anywhere else, therefore giving you a roll of four buttons and a row of two buttons.

"all digital mode" for button remapping.

I have this game, and I have the same general complaint. Unfortunately, there is only one company that can solve this: Sega. For whatever reason, they chose not to include an option to remap buttons. One could be added with a software update, I
    would presume.
I did try to write to Sega and they said everything from: "it will be taken into consideration" to "We don’t accept outside ideas"

I’m trying to show them that between fight sticks and the Hori Fighting Commander, there are perfectly good Genesis-style joysticks t play them closest to the way they were intended.

Unfortunately, their insistence on first making fast forward and rewind and second making them analog, therefore immovable, is stupid. I’d rather be able to enjoy the Genesis-style sticks on the Xbox that I would analog fast forward and rewind, (which
by the way, at their fastest modes rewind too slow to zip through a big chunk fast, I think it’s speed is -1x.)

And what’s with the left stick button activating something, when a joystick usually doesn’t have a left stick button or right stick button.

Xbox was intending to go over Sega’s head my making button configurations. Unfortunately, to overcome Sega’s stubbornness, they have to employ an optional "all digital mode" for the button as part of their Xbox One Joystick OS, where if LT and RT are mapped
to a digital button, it’s mapped as all-or-nothing, either 100% pressure instantly, or 0% instantly. Likewise a different button mapped to LT and RT can have an "activation barrier", which defaults to 50%, can be as low as 10% and as high as 90%, anything
below the barrier is not pressed. At the barrier and and beyond, it’s pressed.

And thankfully, Microsoft made it an easy remap, where now you can store favorite configurations and load them and save them, and have an easy reset to default. I’d like to use one for Pac-Land on Pac-Man Museum 360 where A and B are run left and run right,
so that you don't have to rapidly press the d-pad left or right as fast as you can to run. That’s awkward on a real 360, even if it is rapidly flicking and centering a joystick over and over.

Now the question is: Can you switch joystick configuration by bringup pressing the guide button, or must you quit the game to change the joystick configuration?

Hi. Have you tried resetting all the controller settings to default from the game and the system settings? I would recommend that just to be on the safe side. You can find the system settings under Devices and Accessories. Under whatever you created a
profile, be sure to select Restore to default.

Any ideas for Xbox should be referred over to
    Xbox Ideas
as this is where the community can propose ideas that could potentially come to the Xbox platform in the near future.
Unfortunately, I’m locked out of Xbox Ideas, so someone at 1-800-4-MY-XBOX suggested I post to Xbox forums. I don’t know whether it’s Xbox denying me access or whether it’s uservoice.com

Since I can’t post the idea there, i’m trying to officially post it here.

Make an "all digital mode" where the LT and RT are actuated to the maximum degree when mapped on another button, and other buttons mapped on the trigger on either a fixed percentage, or maybe even programmed, like 10% if you want a slight push to actuate
the non-trigger button mapped to the trigger, or 90% if you want to do a clicky rapid fire slam down, barely release, repeat.
