Free games with Gold - Not rewarding at all

The 'Free games with Gold' program is a great idea, but when you think about it, it doesn't reward the best customers, in contrary!

If you purchase a lot of games, there is a high chance that you may already own the the games you receive for free.

If you don't purchase many games, but just play online the same few games, you will get new products for free.

I feel that the reward system doesn't encourage the purchase of new titles, in contrary.

Improve Xbox!

Free with Gold should be just that. Free games WITH Gold and not free rentals while gold.

Policy changes all around, especially in block and report as well as rep. Take out 'Report' altogether and only have block... Which means even in random matches/comunicatioms those you block won't be in your matches nor personal communications. No more Rep
system at all.

People buy consoles to play games, not to be policed and have other peoples sences of morals forced upon them.

 

Xbox Live Trial Codes

You can play online with all gold trial cards, you can not download free games for gold with most trial cards.

 

End of the day you will never please everyone with something like this. Whatever games they add to the list there will always be gamers that have played them.

Me if there's a game released I really want then I'll buy it. If that games become free at a later date then I'll just say good luck to those who missed it at launch, hope you enjoy.

 

If you tend to purchase a lot you get rewarded via Xbox rewards, if you don't then you get some freebies via Games for Gold, can't really see it being fairer tbh

The vast majority of the games, when released are not available to the Xbox 1 until they are free with Gold (Massive Chalice, IDARB,Guacameele, etc). AC Black Flag is the first big title release IMO, for the X1.... the game is 2 years old.

This always comes up. I have paid my subscription to MS for years, on 360 and the One. Now I get games with the same money I used to pay for just going online. So IMO it is very rewarding.

I have a massive catalogue of games for the 360 but have still managed to snag some through GWG that I didn't own. The same goes for the One, I have game that I may not have purchased but have had fun with them for free (less Gold charge).

Like Lofty says, if I want a game then I will buy it. If it comes out on GWG then my tough luck but I didn't have to wait. It's the same with Cinema, go and see a movie on release and pay, or wait until it eventually comes out on TV.

 

thomasdjafari, I do agree that in some ways it does not encourage purchase for some. I really think that most still buy the games they want. It hurts more with the "indie" type games as many expect those will hit GWG at some point.

And I have AC:IV but I am not disappointed that was the game they gave. Good for the people that do not have it.

The issue with waiting on a game is that you have no guarantee that it will hit GWG. I have seen hear/read people speculate on GWG games. And if one hits it is always the "I told you". What they fail to see or at least mention is that the other 5 or more
games they thought were coming still had not been on GWG. No way I would want to wait and see. So many great/good games I really enjoyed that never hit GWG. And some that did were 3 years after release.

Also, how do you reward your best customers. You best customers probably have purchased a lot of the best games if not all. They have niche titles they wanted. Really, they are your best customers because they buy. Maybe the best thing MS has done is
their rewards program because you can get money back from purchases. If you are already spending that is a nice deal.

Only thing I would like to see MS do is contests. Give customers tickets or points to spend on entries and have drawings. They could draw for stuff like skins, backgrounds, dlc, full games, special collectibles, and stuff like that. Earn entry points/tickets
monthly based on time you have been gold, previous months achievements, polls, etc. I am not much on entering these things but I could see that going well with some. And maybe do a "game show". People answer questions in real time and earn points as well.
These can be used for drawings and have a leaderboard. Different rooms for different games and topics.

 

In all my time reading these sort of threads, the OP comes in states his opinion and doesn't offer up any ideas how best to change it or what their actual point is. I mean, his/her view could be taken any old way. For example, does s/he think some people
should be getting the likes of TW3 or Batman on release, for free? Should MS be topping their wallet up every month with say £5 credit and so on.

 

Since when was GWG a reward anyway??

 

I already own black flag but doesn't bother me that it's in the GWG this month. It gives those who don't own it a chance to play.

 

Games with Gold is and has been just fine in my opinion. I have been and felt "Rewarded" by Games with Gold and Deals With Gold heavily. I passed on Gears Of War Judgement and was never going to purchase it. Got it for free. I own AC Black Flag. Now
I can trade it in and download it for free bacausenof GwG and I recieve a portion of the money back that paid for Black Flag.

Each month they allow us to download 1 game for Xbox One and 2 for Xbox 360. I download the Games i am interested in and disregard the games that i am not interested in. If I download just 6 games in a year. That is more than worth the subscription fee
for Xbox Live Gold. To me that is "rewarding" enough

I don't understand this logic. It truly does seem that the "entitled" (see OP's "it doesn't reward the best customers") few out there want the latest AAA Blockbuster for free each month. That is just unbelievable.

It's Games... With... Gold. A side benefit of subscribing to XBL.

How much is an XBL subscription... $60 a year, if you just auto-renew through MS. Less if you look for sales on a site like Amazon.

At it's most costly, it's $5... a... month. How much 'reward' do people expect!?

 

Since I'm 1 of those consumers who likes to buy a lot of games, I often see some games through this promotion that I've already bought. However, more often then not, they are games I've sold off or deleted and, for nostalgic reasons, would like to play again,
so I redownload them.

What concerns me is the way the licensing of these so-called free games work, both physically and digitally. Let's say that I pay for a disc-based game, Bioshock Infinite, for example. I play it for a time, but stop playing it to try other games. I then
sell the game in order to us the store credit to get the newer games. Later on the game I sold becomes available for free as part of the promotion. Wanting to play it again, I redownload it. Because I downloaded it during the promotion, does that mean that
I won't be able to access it once I stop paying for my gold subscription, despite having paid for it previously, or will that not matter and I'll be able to keep playing it regardless? Is this different if I originally bought the game digitally rather than
with a physical copy?

I'm asking because I've done this, not just with Bioshock Infinite, but with numerous titles, both physical and digital.
