Free Gamertag Disappeared !

Hi everybody,

I wanted to change Gamertag today with the arrival of the old Gamertags, and yesterday when I checked that it told me that I had the right to change once for free, and now when I asked to change it tell me to pay € 9.99.

I wanted to know if it happened to someone other than me and if there was a solution to that?

I worked around the error. BTW the only fix for this is either formatting your hard drive and losing all your saves etc. Or buy a usb flash drive and remove the old hard drive then download the profile to the flash drive and then reinstall the old hard drive.
It couldn't download because the gamertag was still on the harddrive but it couldn't be seen or used so the xbox tricked itself.

Neither of these worked. I tried poet forwarding and dozens to see if it was a network issue but it's not. My nat type is open.

I can't delete my profile because it's not on my hard drive.

 

You don't get a free change unless you are using a system generate tag that was not force changed. Your tag is a custom tag so you will have to pay for a change.

 

same thing has just happend to me and my gamertag is available!

Genesis1953 - that's not true i had the option to change it for free 6 months ago and didnt but now i just can't (for free at least).

 

I agree with MERKIN MERLIN, just yesterday I could change it fo free, I think it's because I never got a system generate tag, I had it for almost 10 years and I could have change it any time I wanted, today I payed to change it I had no choice...

 

You don't get a free name change unless you have a system generated name

To simplify what they are trying to say. If you've created your account online and where given a random gamertag. You are eligible to get a free change once. But if you created your account through the console where you're given the option to choose your
desired one. You're not eligible to get a free change.

 

That is incorrect, the system has given me the option to have one free change for months now. I just used it and it said it successfully changed my name and now the free option is no longer there.

The problem now is:

1.) My free change that has existed for months until I used it, is gone.

2.) It's been hours and my name hasn't changed.

3.) The gamertag I changed it to was immediately unavailable after I confirmed the change, all the while I can't search for that account name in the system because it doesn't exist.

As I stated above the system online specifically said I had a free gamertag change, the circumstances around it are irrelevant. It said I had a changed, I used and even confirmed said change without a problem. The gamertag I choose was immediately unavailable
after I confirmed it and yet that account doesn't exist so the system is aware that someone took that gamertag at the exact moment I did and that the gamertag is un-available and yet my gamertag is still the same as it was before and no such account at the
name I changed to exists.

There is no other excuse. I had a free change, I used it, I confirmed it, the system allowed it to be confirmed, when I confirmed, the gamertag became un-usable and yet my gamertag remains the same and now I am prompted to pay for a change, a change that
was free before I confirmed it and was led to believe would work.
