Free gamertag change not working

Hello, I've tried countless times to get help from the Microsoft Support Live Chat to no avail. They are unfortunately not helpful at all, and there doesn't seem to be an email address that I can email someone, so I am posting here.

My problem is this: I'm trying to use my 1 free gamertag change, but the Xbox app is already saying that I have used it. I know this is incorrect. I have changed the gamertag on this account before, probably about 7 or 8 years ago back after I first created
it. However, back then, it required Microsoft Points to change a gamertag which I had to pay for - thus, it was not a free change.

The excuse I have been given from multiple "support" agents in chat is that I have already changed it, but I explain it to them and they all say "too bad". Normally I wouldn't mind paying a fee, but $10 is absolutely RIDICULOUS for something
so simple. Steam doesn't charge me anything to change my display name. Skype doesn't charge me to change my display name. It literally costs Microsoft
NOTHING to do this. I can understand not wanting people to abuse it, but why not just allow 1 free change per year or something?

All I would like is for my account to be credited with 1 free name change that I am entitled to, just like every other new user of Xbox Live is. Why are new users given this option, when loyal customers who have been around for 8 years who have spent hundreds
of dollars on XBL Gold are treated like trash? It's not right. My request is not absurd and is quite easy to honour.

Then why was I given multiple free changes every time I got a forced change?

Yeah I had some stupid gamertags, but that was years ago. I dont understand why I need to pay for it this time when I didnt the others. I literally want to change it to 'Old Snaek', Hardly a violation.

Keep in mind multiple forced name changes will only end badly for you

And if you had read the terms of use lately you would know that if you want a customize name again you have to pay for it or accept the generic happy name you are given

FYI keep the name if you can't understand the basic rules of Xbox live keep it e for everyone

It will keep you from future enforcement problems if you continue to test the limits of the rulea

 

You've already used your free gamertag change.

When you first start your account you are given a randomly generated gamertag which you can change to a personal one for free.

If you were charged Microsoft points 7 or 8 years ago then you had already used your free change back then.

The tag you are posting with is not a randomly generated tag.The fee is there to prevent people constantly changing their tags.

If you want to change your tag again then you will have to pay.

 

You are incorrect. Back then there were NOT any free gamertag changes. I was never given a free gamertag change. All you need to do is check my account and you'll see.

 

Randomly generated tags did not start until 2010, but anyone who created an account before then would not be eligible for the free change. You're only eligible for the free change if you were given a randomly generated tag when you created your account and
are changing that tag. There is no other way to get a free change.

 

So, it's confirmed that Microsoft is screwing loyal, veteran customers that have been there since the beginning and yet offering this option to new users. This is absolutely ridiculous. It literally costs Microsoft absolutely nothing to do this, but yet
they are changing a $10 fee - complete crap. I don't understand why you guys just can't credit my account with 1 free gamertag change that I am entitled to... Maybe if I ditch Xbox altogether and never buy another exclusive or pay for Gold again, you'll do
something about it? Is the $10 fee really worth the hundreds of dollars of Gold and games I could be paying for instead?

 

We are just fellow gamers so we can't give you anything. You can try contacting support again to complain, but they generally won't waive the fee.

 

I created the account I have now 9 years ago & was given a random tag then.I changed it to the one I have now for free,that was my one free change.

The same thing has happened to you.You have had your one free name change already.

 

Ok, thanks for your time then. I thought this forum was actually run by Microsoft employees as it is listed under the "Contact Xbox Support" section. Apparently they just like to make things difficult.

You're wrong. I have NEVER had a free change, as Smwutches stated, they didn't force randomly generated names until 2010. Before 2010, you could opt for a randomly generated name, but it was just that - an option. Stop spreading misinformation

And if you didn't choose the random tag & picked a personal one that is your 1 time free name change.

I know exactly how it worked back then as the tag I was offered was quite funny & stuck in my mind.
