Free game suddenly costs money

So I download free games, I get bored of them or I get a bug I couldn't get past, so I uninstall them. I find interest in them again later on, but suddenly they cost money?? I don't understand, it was free, but now it's like 5$ or 20$?? Like why? It was jist free? What happened that made it cost money? I'm on xbox series S, and it's games like subnautica, endlings extinction is forever, etc. Like they were just free a bit ago, so why do they cost money suddenly??

I definitely understand where you're coming from, although, these games were removed from game pass library if then, you would need to purchase them if they have been removed if you wanted to continue playing again.

the game is now a free to play title, this means the core game is free, and additional courses and players cost money.

Microsoft might make some extra money at first but in the long run no. Plus a bunch of people that have been paying for xbox live gold would probably get ticked off about it suddenly being free. Plus it's worth the extra money for the extra security and
features that come with the xbox. If they made online free the xbox would probably turn into a giant money pit because of the extra features it has like the call of duty maps coming out a week early I'm sure costs ms some money to make happen. It wouldn't
be worth it for the company in the long run.
