  • I get error code 0x80150017 on xbox.com and error code 0x80153016 on the XBox One console when I try to redeem my Fallout 3 code.

0x80150017 - That code usually means it's a region issue. Make sure the region of the website is also set for Switzerland in the bottom left corner before you redeem the code.

On xbox.com the region in the bottom left corner is "Deutsch (Schweiz)", enter the code and get the same error:

as for the error code lookup:

Yes. And the answers are for Xbox 360, not Xbox One. The Xbox One is also in Deutsch - Schweiz, and I bought it here in Switzerland as well.

So, I'm still unable to use this code.

 

Ok... figured it out. The reply gave me enough of a hint to dig it out: my Xbox Live account was in some random region (probably because my Microsoft account is set to English). So I migrated it to Schweiz, and now the code worked.

Seriously, Microsoft: the preferred language of a person is not (necessarily) related to where they live. Doing a quick google search showed how many others this is a problem for as well, it is a little mind-spinning to consider someone thought this made
sense (I'm a software developer myself, so know what goes into these sorts of decisions) ... I'm guessing someone in the USA who has never lived anywhere else? *sigh*

Anyways, this is now fixed for me. If via a rather unsatisfactory method (changing my region which was tied to my choice of language...)

 

Support will post here if they have any other ideas, but since the game was purchased at a different retailer, you would need to contact them to try to set up an exchange.

I have no idea what you mean by a "different retailer", but I did resolve the problem yesterday by geo migrating my Xbox Live account to Switzerland. The region settings on the Xbox or on xbox.com do not matter one bit. In future, perhaps point people first
to geographical region their Xbox Live account is in.

Apparently when I selected English as my preferred language for the xbox website, it set my account to an english speaking country. Tying language to region is a very poor idea, one that probably came from a group unfamiliar with how multilingual cultures
work in the real world outside North America.

 

Bu different retailer, I meantMElectronics. Sonce you bought it from them and not Xbox. But since it all worked out it doesn't matter.

They did announce at E3 that you will soon be able to select your language separate from your region.
