Free demo can't be downloaded due to "You have no valid payment options on file"

Why can't we download free content without a payment option? This makes absolutely no sense. I am on a pc trying to download a demo to my Xbox 360 but can't download free content because I don't have payment options set up? Why are any payment options necessary
at all, and why would it check to download free content?

I see threads going back to 2013 and further where this was happening, how can this still be an issue?

This actually fixed my problem. I was stuck in this weird loop of trying to add a payment option, but it would then error out. When I try to manage it, it would then default to a US-based profile site. Migrating my profile to the correct region "Canada-US"
fixed the problem. I resolved this problem on my PC. Thanks to kavoos..this worked. So for anyone having problems, try doing it on the webiste and manage your payment option, and ensure that the page reflects your current location.

it happened to me too. even with my gold membership and have an active credit ard on some games and buying avatar it was asking that I have no valid payment and asked me to add a payment but when I was trying to add my credit card info the region was fixed
on United kingdom and I couldn't change it.

the customer support was unable to fix the issue and I finally solve it by going to Sign in to your Microsoft account and update my region to USA and all my credit card information showed
up .

Actually yes you do need a payment method however it doesn't take out money unless you buy a subscription or autorenewal or a purchase

However you can use the console to download free demos

As you can download via the console

Anything you find in the webmarketplace you can find on the console and it would be In correct description based on your region

 

On the website you have to have an payment option on file not including the ms account

 

As stated before you do not have charges unless you buy a subscription and if child access is an a issue time to take a lesson on parental responsibility and create an parental controled child account for them

 

I have the same problem. I was getting demos just fine, and all of a sudden I get the "You have no valid payment options on file." I guess I'll put my card on file and see what happens.
