    So a few days ago my discord got hacked and I didn't worry too much about it because it wasn't tied to anything but last night it went a step further and I started seeing tons of charges to my Xbox account out of no where. They just kept buying thing after thing and gifting it to themselves. So I froze my card, removed it from everywhere and the purchases were being made through paypal so I attempted the refunds on there since Microsoft support was closed. I also reported this to the police. Paypal has verified the purchases as unauthorized or fraudulent and said they will be refunding me but this person bought these different things as gift codes to all sorts of different emails and already used about half or most of them it says in my order history. Will Microsoft think that this was theft on my part since I am the one getting the refunds? Im already stressed enough because I have never had my card compromised before and have to set up new billing for all of my utilities, car payments, etc and really don't want microsoft to think I was trying to take money from them when really someone hacked me. I also setup 2 factor authorization as soon as noticing this had happened.

    Tldr; someone made fraudulent charges on my account and I asked for a refund through paypal (source of where it said the stuff was purchased in my order history) and paypal says it was verified as unauthorized and will be offering refunds. Will xbox ban me or think I was taking money from them?

    Because these transactions were cleared through PayPal the contract of purchase is between you and PayPal. That is why they are responsible for your refund and not Microsoft. Therefore, it is always recommended when you can, use a credit card (or a service like PayPal) as they are responsible for the transaction and any goods you receive. Your Microsoft account should not be affected by this in anyway. Unless it is proved you have been negligent. But it seems PayPal have already taken responsibility for it.

    For anyone else reading this, please make sure your Microsoft Account has two factor authentication enabled and that any transaction on your account requires approval. PayPal also provide two step authorisations on transitions. Set this up now BEFORE this happens to you.

    Also, as I said, you get one free, no questions asked refund for the year that he could apply for. Once again, he would just have to take it up with Customer Support.

    "If your refund has been denied, and you believe it's an error, please reply to the email you received informing you of the refund rejection. In your response, explain in detail the reasons why they should reconsider their decision and why you believe they should accept it. This is the only way to appeal the rejection and get back in touch with the team that originally handled your refund request."

    Once you have submitted your refund dispute, you will receive a reply from the Xbox refund webform team via email within 72 hours.
