    Hi there,

    I bought the Ultimate Edition of Forza Motorsport 7 in the Last Lap sale yesterday, and successfully installed it, but have been unable to launch it since.

    When I try to start the game, it gives this error:

    It seems this was a fairly common problem a number of years ago. A popular workaround that people suggested was holding Page Up whilst clicking Quit, but trying this quits the application anyway.

    I'm also aware of what the error means. My PC was built with an AMD FX-6350 CPU, 16GB of DDR3 memory, and a HIS AMD Radeon HD6970 2GB GPU. While I'm still unsure if the HD6970 natively supported DirectX 12 when DX12 was launched, the latest AMD graphics drivers are installed on it (the installation made no difference to the error condition) and running dxdiag told me that it was indeed running DirectX 12.

    Now, knowing that Windows 10 (also up to date, according to the Windows Update tab in Settings) has DirectX 12 as part of the system, I'm wondering if it actually is running that version, or just sees it installed somewhere.

    Either way, I'm at a bit of a loss here. I still plan on keeping the game in case I buy an Xbox One at some point, since I bought it on the Microsoft Store, linked to my Microsoft account. But in the meantime, I'd still like to see if I can get it running on my computer, because I've never played Motorsport 7 before, and I'm keen to experience it.

    Any suggestions would be welcomed.

    Please, check if these services are running.

    Press the Windows Button then type Services.

    Right-click over the Services App from the list of results.

    Then select Run as Administrator

    Scroll to the bottom and find the following services:

    IP Helper

    Xbox Live Auth Manager,

    Xbox Live Game Save,

    Xbox Live Networking Service,

    Gaming Services.

    Do this with each of the services listed above.

    Right-click over the service and select Properties.

    Find the Startup type section and make sure it’s set to Automatic.

    If the service isn’t started, click Start to start the services.

    Click Apply and OK to save changes.

    Restart your PC and try again.

    Thankfully, that's got us somewhere in the right direction. I signed in with another Microsoft account I have, but before doing that, I tried resetting the Xbox app itself. While still signed into the main account, I launched the game, and got this at the title screen:

    It then loads to a greeting page, asking to switch account or start the game. Sadly, the same Load Failed thing happens despite choosing different accounts in this prompt.

    Annoyingly I've found that the sign-in prompt hasn't appeared since, and it just sends me straight to the Load Failed screen after pressing Enter. I've reset the Forza app, and both Xbox apps to be sure, and tried disconnecting from the internet again, but neither made any difference.

    I tried that, and found that offline permissions were already enabled, but I turned them off and on again to be sure. Booted the game while online, same problem, and the same happened when unplugging the ethernet cable, and booting it again.

    I have an Xbox account signed into the Xbox application, linked to the same Microsoft account that I bought the game with, and use as my user on this PC. I don't pay an Xbox Live subscription and I've never had an Xbox Live account, but I'm not sure why that would have much of an effect.

    Something tells me this isn't going to work somehow... Is there some kind of log file I can try and find a cause within? I've tried looking in Event Viewer but nothing seems to be in there regarding the game itself.

    To be honest, I feel bad about the fact I might be wasting your time trying to troubleshoot a blind error.

    My PC is running 16GB of physical RAM, ordered in 2 2x4GB and 2 2x8GB sticks of Corsair Vengeance LP (the configuration is weird because the remaining 2x4GBs were from my old PC, to make up the 16). The motherboard can't run odd amounts, so it's set up to run 4GB from each stick. I haven't run into compatibility problems yet because of how it runs like a 4x4GB setup, but that could be worth mentioning here.

    As for the GPU, it has 2GB of video memory. As said earlier on, it's a Sapphire Radeon RX460 2GB out of a pre-built machine, running its latest drivers.

    I don't have a Game Pass subscription, so I don't think I'd be able to stream it.
