forza motorsport 6 apex,generic controller dosen't work

The only handheld gaming controllers that seem to work right now are Xbox One and Xbox 360 controllers. I recently bought a wired Xbox 360 controller and it works fine. From what I've read on various discussion forums, some people seem to have trouble with
the Xbox wireless controllers, which is why I got a wired one. NOTE: I was able to download and install the game by plugging in my old Logitech Wingman Rumblepad, even though this controller doesn't work with the game. It seems that you can have any old USB controller
plugged in to satisfy the hardware requirements for download but only the two Xbox controllers I mentioned above actually work with the game. A fair number of racing
wheels are supported but check the list in the game before running out to buy a wheel if you thought about doing that. Hope this helps.

the game is Forza Motorsports 6 Apex. it's the only game I'm having the same problem with.
