Forza Horizon 5 on PC game pass crashes on launch - issue with permissions?

Hi there

I have been trying for days to get Forza Horizon 5 on PC game pass to launch. I have tried all the advice I could find online (repairing the Xbox app, re-installing Gaming Services, reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++, syncing date and time, turning of firewalls and antivirus, redownloading and re-installing the app, a clean install of Windows 10, etc.) but so far nothing has worked.

I am wondering if it could be an issue with permissions perhaps? The Event Viewer gives messages such as:

"The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

{37399C92-DC3F-4B55-AE5B-811EE82398AD}

and APPID

{37399C92-DC3F-4B55-AE5B-811EE82398AD} ... running in the application container Microsoft.GamingApp_2206.1001.5.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe ..."

Also application errors for C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.GamingServices_4.66.9001.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\GamingServicesUI\GamingServicesUI.exe
Event ID 1000.

I have tried changing the DCOM permissions in the Component Services tool, but so far nothing has worked.

Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I formatted my disk, did a fresh install of Windows 11, re-downloaded and installed and finally got the game to run.

Could you try install the game under WindowsApps folder?

I think that would be the reason about permission errors

Also, try taking ownership of both XboxGames and WindowsApps folders:

Press Windows + E and go to the drive where you want to install the games.

Locate the XboxGames folder (and WindowsApps).

Right-click on it and select Properties.

Go to the Security tab and select Advanced.

Click on Continue in the Permissions tab.

Select Change.

Click Advanced in the Select User or Group window, then Find now.

Select your user account and click on Ok.

Click on Ok and Apply on every window and close them.

That should do the trick

Acfranco, do you have another partition on your PC?

May I know if you already try installing the game on another partition to see if the issue persists, if you actually only have the C: drive try reducing the space and after create a new one.

Or if you have another drive, create a new partition in the same way, don't forget format the new partition as NTFS.
