Forza Horizon 5 No Longer Working on Windows 10 Version 1909

Basically I took a hiatus from the game around the time of Series 3 and 4 events (which was around February), and when I came back for Series 5 in March, the game wouldn’t launch. At first, clicking the icon in the start menu would bring up Gaming Services and not launch the game. I looked into this and tried resetting and refreshing the game but this didn’t solve the issue. Now whenever I click on the icon, nothing happens. Same story if I try to uninstall it from the start menu. When I go into Settings → Apps, Forza Horizon 5 is no longer listed.

I then went back to the Microsoft Store to see if I could install the game again, and I was redirected to the Xbox app . When I hit install in the Xbox App I got and error code 0x00000001, which according to the Xbox support page can be resolved by installing the KB5004476 update. Unfortunately I can’t install that specific update because it wasn't released for version 1909 and there is no option to install optional updates on my system. When I click Check for Updates, it starts installing an update for Defender (KB2267602), but after a few seconds it will disappear as if the installation was aborted.

At this point I’m stumped and I'm not sure if I want to go as far as modifying the registry or reinstalling my system just to play the game again.

Hello Jack, have you checked if you have the latest version of Windows installed, at 21H2, because recently came out the latest update to Windows 10 and 11.

Updates often seen as optional, Microsoft released major fixes this week, and make sure you have the Xbox Companion App installed.

If you haven't updated yet, click the link below, update and then make all subsequent security updates.

Also make sure all Xbox Apps are up to date in the store.

try downloading from the win 10 store instead to see what you get there, also is your windows 10 fully up to date as 1909 or lower are no longer supported versions of the OS.

I downgraded to Windows 10 version 1909. Then permanently disable auto updates
