Forza Horizon 5 crashing when my wheel is pluged on.

Just to confirm, does this issue occur in the Steam version or the Microsoft version?

Which Windows version and OS Build are you currently on? Press the Windows key + R, type winver in the Open box, then select OK, or go to Settings > System > About for more detailed info with your PC specs. You may share a screenshot here if it’s easier.

There are currently FH5 Known Issues that are being actively addressed in regular updates. Steering wheels and peripherals as well as other third party software such as Antivirus and VPNs are known to cause unexpected crashes in Forza.

There’s a lot of other threads discussing this, and the main reason for the crashes seems to often be related to the vJoy driver so you should first completely uninstall vJoy, then restart your PC. Refer to this YouTube tutorial for various ways to try this:

Also confirm you have a compatible model, which you appear to have anyway, and verify everything is updated and set up correctly:

Uninstalling the vJoy driver should resolve the error as you only experience a crash when your steering wheel is connected, so this would be the specific driver that’s most likely responsible if it’s not the steering wheel itself.

If there’s still no significant difference after performing the above, then there’s probably something else that’s affecting access. Try everything recommended in the following troubleshooting guide which goes through missing/corrupt system files, software updates, etc. This should at least improve overall game performance and prevent most complications:

For the other known issues, you would need to wait until a future update/patch. The last one was at the end of April, so the next one should be soon.

If this persists, it would be best to contact Xbox Support (or Steam Support if playing from the Steam launcher) and submit a ticket to Forza Support directly to properly address this. Be sure to share the exception codes and any relevant minidump files so they can take a closer look with all the diagnostic data. Okay, don’t worry. There’s another possible option that should work.

As the error only occurs when you have the steering wheel connected, see if it helps to connect it at a different time. For example, there may be an improvement if you connect the steering wheel after launching FH5 and not before (or vice versa).

I recommend to completely uninstall and reinstall the thrustmaster driver. Be sure to restart your PC and see if FH5 crashes at any point (launch the game a few times to confirm this) before reinstalling the driver.

The easiest way to uninstall thrustmaster would probably be from the add/remove feature in control panel. From the Windows Open box, type ‘control panel’, then find and select ‘uninstall a program’. I believe the thrustmaster steering wheel is called ‘FFB racing wheel drivers’, and it should only be a few megabytes. Reinstall the driver exactly the same way as when you initially installed it originally.

The next step would depend on the results from trying the above. If it’s successful (even with the driver installed), then great and you don’t need to do anything else - have fun playing! If it’s not successful, however, then you unfortunately would need to wait until this is eventually fixed in an update from the developers. Contact both Forza Support and Thrustmaster Support if this is the case.
