Forza Horizon 5 Crashes Before Launching

I must have pressed something last time, as something happened this time. But Forza Horizon 5 still crashes on launch

Yes, we agree that the other workaround is to give your device a fresh installation of Windows. We recommend it after submitting feedback so that you can capture the error logs registered in the device which might be asked by our engineer during gathering of data report.

Make sure to back up everything including your important files before performing clean install of Windows.

Thank you for the help.

One workaround I found for this issue was to do a clean install of windows.

I personally used a brand new SSD to do this but I imagine formatting an old drive would accomplish the same.

We understand that you are having issue launching game with Forza Horizon 5 in your PC and despite the time and effort invested on series of troubleshooting steps, the issue still persists. Let us work as a team and sort this out.

As mentioned, that the issue started after installing some software and driver. It is possible that those changes are conflicting some drivers already installed in your device. We are going to isolate and confirm though if those are causing the issue or it might be there are other underlying root cause of the problem.

Here are the things that we can try.

1. Try to uninstall the software and driver that were previously installed. Then try to launch the game. If the issue is still the same, proceed to the next steps

2. Make sure Windows is up to date.

• Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and then select Settings.
  
• select Windows Update.
  
• On the Windows Update page, select Check for updates to see if any updates are available including optional updates for your device.
  
• Once the updates have downloaded, select Install now to start the installation.
  
• Following installation, we recommend that you restart your device so that the latest updates can take effect.
  

3. Make sure both the Xbox and Gaming Services apps are up to date.

• Press the Start button on the taskbar, type store, and open the Microsoft Store app.
  
• Select Library.
  
• Under Updates & downloads, check if there are any updates available for the Xbox app or Gaming Services app. If an update is available, select Update.
  

4. Make sure the game is up to date.

• Open the Xbox app for Windows.
  
• In My Library, select the game title.
  
• Select the More options (…) button and choose Manage.
  
• Select Files and then Check for updates.
  

5. Make sure you are signed in to the Xbox app and the Store with the same account.

• To make sure your permissions for the game can be validated, be sure to sign in to both the Store and the Xbox app using the same account that was used to purchase the game.
  

6. Remove and reinstall Gaming Services

• Select the Search icon on the taskbar, type powershell, right-click on Windows PowerShell, and then select Run as administrator.
  
• In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:
  
  get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
  
• In the same window, type the following command and press Enter:
  
  start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
  
• Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
  
• Restart your device and try to install the game again.
  

7. Uninstall and reinstall the game.

• If you're having trouble getting a game to play, uninstalling and then reinstalling the game might help. Occasionally, game files may get corrupted or altered, especially if you've had a malware problem or are running a game modification on your device.
  
  Some games can even repair the original files without you having to remove the game completely. However, if you installed the game from the Microsoft Store, you'll only be able to completely uninstall and reinstall the game
  

Additionally, we can update the device drivers. For the best game performance, make sure your system’s video card drivers (or display adapter drivers) are up to date. Drivers are available on the support website for your computer manufacturer, or if your computer system is custom built, on the video card manufacturer’s support website. Updating video card drivers can resolve game crashes, improve frame rates, and improve overall game performance.

This exact same issue is happening on the Xbox console, so I would suggest user pc settings are not the issue
