    Forza Horizon 4 on PC using 100% CPU but 0% GPU


    Ever since the most recent FH4 update I've been unable to play since the game refuses to use my GPU. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 and Intel Core i7-4770 along with 16 GB of ram. Other games will happily use my GPU (which task manager shows), just not
    FH4. I have Windows 10 btw.

    I have tried:

    • Reinstalling the game (4x now).
    • Updating graphics card drivers.
    • Updating processor drivers.
    • Updating Windows.
    • Going into "Graphics Settings" in Windows and setting FH4's graphics specifications to use "High performance."
    • Going into the NVIDIA control panel to "Manage 3D settings" and setting "OpenGL rendering GPU" to my GTX 1080.
    I've tried everything I can think of plus anything I can find online, to no avail. I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.

    EDIT:

    My PC is a desktop btw.

    I have now also tried:

    • Changing the NVIDIA PhysX option in the NVIDIA control panel to use my graphics card.
    • PC is set to high performance power plan.
    • Changing BIOS from "auto" graphics to "PCIe".

    Hi,

    All modern laptops that have a dedicated or discreet graphics chip also contain an iGPU (integrated Graphics Processing Unit) that is built into the processor, in this case an 'Intel® HD Graphics 4600'

    The When the computer is doing none heavy graphical tasks like browsing the web or watching video's, the iGPU will be utilised, as this saves on battery life. When you launch a game, the system should switch to the NVIDIA graphics chip. But some things can
    prevent this.

    • Not being plugged into the mains.
    • Having the laptop power settings set to something other than 'Maximum Performance'.

    The "OpenGL rendering GPU" option in the NVIDIA control panel will only make a difference with games that use the OpenGL graphics API, it won't make any difference to Forza
    because it uses DirectX.

    It's not the game you need to set to High Performance, it's your PC power settings.

    You can change the power settings from within
    Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options.

    See if that helps.

    Sounds like you've plugged your monitor into the motherboard instead of the graphics card. If you connect to the motherboard you won't be using the GTX 1080 you'll be using the iGPU.

    Connect your PC to the display (monitor or TV) via the GTX 1080's own video out which should be either HDMI or Display Port.

    Sorry about the desktop/laptop confusion, I should have read your CPU spec closely. It was a dead giveaway lol.
