    Forza Horizon 4 Crashing - Windows 10 / Steam


    Hi there,

    I recently picked up Forza Horizon 4. The game worked fine for the first hour, then crashed shortly after I got given my first house.

    The game now crashes every time it tries to load my save game. I can make it to the main menu, but shortly after clicking "continue", the game crashes.

    I have been through all the recommended fixes, nothing worked. I contacted FH4 support directly who got me to look up my windows error logs looking for entries. I found one, and FH4 support then told me they couldn't help me and to contact Microsoft.

    As Microsoft doesn't seem to offer direct support, here I am, looking for help!

    For reference, I have already tried the following:

    1) Full re-install

    2) Disable Windows Defender

    3) Disable as many background programs as possible

    4) Verified Integrity of game files

    5) Updated my graphics driver

    6) Turned down the graphics settings in game

    Luckily, im still within the 2 hour refund window on Steam, so if I can't fix this soon then I'll just get a refund, but I'd been looking forwards to giving this game a go for a while, so it'd be nice to get it running! However, I have no clue what to try next....

    Thank you for reaching out to us about your issue!

    First, verify that you're on the latest version of Windows 10 by checking for updates. I've read that some users were able to get the game to stop crashing by ending the "Xbox Game Bar" task in the task manager prior to updating their device. After the update, the crashing seemed to have stopped. You can give that a try and let us know if it works!

    If updating or ending Xbox Game Bar doesn't work, then it sounds like there is a corruption in either the save file or the process of saving the file. The reason I say that is because it seems as though the game crashed during your first in-game "milestone" which would theoretically be a good save point. Can you verify whether or not that was the first time the game saved your progress?

    If so, I can recommend two possible solutions:

    A) Delete the save (if you're okay with losing any progress) and try making it to the same point in the game to see it crashes again.

    B) Enable or Disable Steam's cloud saving functionality to verify whether or not it's helping or interfering.

    I suggest taking a look at the link below albeit not totally relevant, there is a section titled "How to delete your Forza Horizon save on Steam" that may be beneficial to you.

    I see that you are playing this on a PC and not on an Xbox One. I recommend looking at this support article I found with many known solutions to resolve FH4 crashing on a Windows 10 PC:

    Hi,

    Unfortunately no. The Steam version of Forza Horizon 4 (only recently released on the platform) is a separate game to the one on the Windows Store. You can't transfer or get a 'key' to download it from Steam.
