forza horizon 4 auction not available

There are various reasons as to why you’re unable to access the auction house in Forza Horizon 4. I’ll try to go through all the possible solutions to this here.

I haven’t added network troubleshooting here, as I understand your friend isn’t experiencing this error on the same network that you’re both connected to. Feel welcome to skip any steps you’ve already tried, or if anything doesn’t apply to you though.

Exactly which console/device do you encounter this error on - Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Windows 10), or on a compatible smartphone or tablet through Cloud gaming?

If you’re on PC; are you referring to the Microsoft or Steam version of FH4?

You mentioned you’re also unable to redeem gifted cars - exactly what happens when you try to? Any error message?

To clarify, are you able to access any other online features in FH4? Is the Auction House greyed out, or is there just an error each time you launch it? If it doesn’t appear greyed out, but says the server is unavailable (or a similar error) then this would likely be a network problem, or an outage with the Forza servers. There’s not currently any reported issues though - Xbox Live Status and the Forza Support page on Twitter @forza_support

To identify and pinpoint exactly what’s causing this, sign in to your friend’s console and try to access the Auction House to see if it makes any difference. Alternatively, perhaps your friend can sign into the device that you can’t access the in-game Auction House on and see if the same error occurs. You’ll then know for sure if it’s the account, network, or device that’s the problem.

If the Auction House is available on your friend’s console (or another compatible device) on your profile, but not on other devices, then it would be the network or system settings on the specific device that’s preventing access to the online feature. Confirm this with other accounts on the same device.

It would be an account problem if you’ve tried multiple devices and different networks.

1. Your privacy settings

You can manage your privacy settings and online preferences on the Privacy & online safety page (Xbox.com), or on a Xbox One or Series X|S console. Regardless of where you change your settings, the applied settings will take affect on all devices on your account.

My answer in this thread may help with this. I’ve gone through all the steps in detail to adjust privacy settings for both adult and child accounts.

Simply put, if you’re on a child account (under 18 in most countries) or in a family as a child, then you won’t be able to access the privacy settings page. An adult from the same Microsoft family would need to adjust your privacy settings in family settings (Microsoft.com) for you. If you’re on a child account but not in a family, then you’ll need to join one to be able to do this. Similarly, if you’re currently in a family and your account was initially a child account but has since been updated to an adult account, you may need to leave the family (you can always rejoin) as the system would still identify your account as restricted under a family.

Keep in mind accounts can’t be ‘promoted’ from child to adult (even if you change the birth date on the account - it’s the age selected when the account was created that’s important) without reaching the age that’s considered an adult in your country. You can also only be part of one Microsoft Family at any one time.

You can check your birth date on your account at https://account.microsoft.com - sign into your account and select the “Your info” tab at the top of the page.

Note If an adult updates your account settings, you’ll need to sign out then back in again for the applied settings to take affect.

The exact privacy option you need to allow/enable in order to access the Auction House in Forza is:

"You can see and upload community creations" - set to everyone.

^These are effectively the same support pages - I just included both in case you’re unable to access one or if one for some reason doesn’t load. If you’re being redirected from the privacy settings page back to the support page, then this most likely means you’re on a child account.

Solutions to to this are under the question: “Why is the Auction House grayed out?” (Ignore step 3 which suggests to confirm your age is over 18 and not a child account - you don’t necessarily need an adult account to access the Auction House or other online features).

2. The tutorial/introduction

You need to qualify/complete the tutorial, going through all the seasons at the start in order to unlock the Auction House, Festival playlist, and more race events. Once you’ve completed this, you’ll join the season cycle with everyone else. The season changes every Thursday with a new Festival playlist every monthly series update. You should then be able to access everything after a certain level and amount of influence has been reached.

3. Your in-game account or Xbox profile - suspension

If you were suspended, you won’t be able to access the Auction House and possibly other online features.

Forza in-game suspensions only apply to the Forza title where you received it. So if you were banned in Forza Horizon 4, this won’t affect other Forza titles such as Forza Horizon 5 and Forza Motorsport 7.

Forza suspensions affect access to the specific game feature that’s relevant to the ban (for example, the Auction House or online matchmaking).

You’re notified in the in-game Message Center with information on the exact reason and length of the ban, and what restriction(s) have been applied to your account.

Turn 10 Studios generally follows a ‘3 strikes’ system:

- Strike 1 - 7-day suspension from specific feature(s)

- Strike 2 - 30-day suspension from specific feature(s)

- Strike 3 - Permanent suspension from specific feature(s) or ALL features. There are exceptions to this rule where you may receive a permaban (even if it’s the first strike) depending on the violation.

Unfortunately, there is no appeal process for Forza in-game bans. If you are unsure as to why you were banned, you may submit a Banned Inquiry Ticket

You can, however, submit a case review on a Xbox suspension depending on the length of the ban. For information on Xbox Live enforcement and suspensions, refer to the enforcement section here /

If on PC:

Confirm everything is updated, then restart and try again. If you’re on a Windows PC, turn off all unnecessary, non-essential background apps and processes in task manager. If you also have an ad-blocker or anti-virus software (unlikely factor for in-game issues, but still worth looking into) or VPN, then you may want to disable this to see if this helps. This should also improve general overall performance for both the system and games.

If on a Xbox console:

Close the game and restart your console. Be sure to wait at least 10-15 seconds before reconnecting the power to completely reset the power supply

If this doesn’t help, you can try to uninstall and reinstall the game by following the steps in this guide

You shouldn’t need to completely uninstall and reinstall the game to resolve this particular issue especially if the error doesn’t occur with other accounts on the same console, so only try this as a last resort if all else fails.
