Forza Horizon 3 + HDR on One S, picture is bright?

So, I'm still struggling to understand all the new 4k and HDR talk. I currently have a 65" Samsung JU6500. I was under the impression that the TV was HDR ready, but was waiting on a firmware update. I have since read that Samsung patched all their 2015 model
TVs to support HDR. When I'm in the xBox settings, with the UHD mode enabled for my particular HDMI input, I have all green checks for both 10p 4K and HDR support for videos and games. When HDR is enable, Forza's contrast is so bright I can't read half of
the menus. This leads me to believe that I'm either not set up right or my TV does NOT support HDR, still.

I have noticed that when I change the color range from Standard to PC RGB, the contrast comes back, but I feel like this is "breaking the picture"?

Does anyone that has better understanding of this have any idea what's going on?

xbox one s does not support 4:2:2 hdr!!!

Xbox one s only supports hdr game with ycbcr 4:2:0 while playing forza horizon 3. It should support ycbcr 4:2:2 4k 60Hz as well for better picture quality.

 

4K HDR capable on digital copies

It will all depend on if the game developer is supporting 4K plus HDR and also on what version of the Xbox One you are using. As an example both the disc and digital versions of Forza Horizon 3 running on an Xbox One S will display a HDR picture when connected
to a compatible television (And I believe 4K on Xbox One X when it launches).

 

Are you testing this on the Forza Horizon 3 demo? The demo does not support HDR, according to senior Xbox engineers, so that could be your cause for it being brighter than expected.

The full game released on the 23rd/27th will have HDR support.

The Forza Horizon 3 demo does not support HDR you will have to wait for the full game to release for HDR version on the game.

Also have your tried using streaming services such as Netflix or Amazon to see if you get similar results?

 

Ah, then maybe it is a color space issue that I need to pinpoint. It seemed to only do it when HDR was enabled, but I guess that could be the tv's fault?

I have not tried Netflix, yet, so I will try that tonight.

I don't know how this was resolved, it but it was. I made it home last night and changed my color space back to standard on the xBox, looked through the menus of my TV and found nothing, then tried Forza, again. The contrast and colors were spot on. I don't
know if it was a handshake issue or what, but it's working now.

I even made it to Netflix and checked it out, everything seems to be working perfectly. Will there be an indicator showing the show is playing in HDR while you stream a compatible show? I know about the right joystick press to reach the status of bitrate,
but all I ever saw was 2160, never saw any symbol for HDR or anything..

 

I don't know if Netflix explicitly calls out whether what you're seeing is HDR, I think it might just be 4K - and as you say, finding the bitrate is the best way to know if it's actually coming through as 4K. But as the two tend to go hand-in-hand, if the
show was filmed with HDR and it's streaming in 4K according to the bitrate, it should be HDR content.

 

I am having an issue where Forza H3 is looking too dark when HDR is checked on my Xbox One S.

I have a Samsung JS9000.

If I turn HDR off the screen goes brighter immediately

 

Netflix on the Xbox S does show its in HDR
