Forza 5 Failing to Install

For a couple of days now, Horizon 5 is exhibiting a few error's and problems, Microsoft acknowledge them here:

Try this:

Log out of your account on the app, reinstall it, restart your PC, and then log back in and try again.

If this doesn't work:

First, make sure your windows and all its services are up to date:

Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update;

Click Check for Updates;

Click the Download and Install Now option, if available;

Also, check the Microsoft Store for any updates on the Xbox apps and its services.

Then try this:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for gaming services app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then restore, open the app and try again.

Then do the same for the Xbox app:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for gaming services app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then restore, open the app and try again.

If it still doesn't work you're going to uninstall the games services using a powershell command, then you're going to open the gamepass app, it will ask you to download and install the game services again :

In the windows search bar type Powershell > Right click and select open as administrator > Type the command: "get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-Appxpackage –allusers" > Wait for the process to finish and then restart the PC, then open your Xbox gamepass app, it will ask you to install the gaming services again, install it and try again.

If neither of those procedures works, try to restore your PC's OS via the ISO image tool, using that tool you will be able to maintain your installed games and files.

I have reinstalled the xbox game pass app.

It is still showing Forza Horizon 5 as uninstalled.

When attempting to install, it shows 110gb of storage space free (I know that this should be closer to 220-230gb)- suggesting that the failed install from last night is still hogging drive space.

If I try to install Forza Horizon 5 again, it lingers on "preparing install" before failing without any error messages

It seems like there is some corrupt data somewhere that I need to clear both to free up space and allow me to reinstall the game.

I don't know how I can change the location of the installation, so my guess is it is going to the C: drive. I have enough storage, and it is just a problem with Forza. I installed Homescapes to check this.

Please answer the following questions to assist you properly :

Is this happening on Windows 10 or 11?
Are you trying to install the game on the C: (system) drive or are you trying to install it on another driver/partition
If you try installing a different game the issue persists or is this happening only with Forza Horizon 5
May I know if you tried more things besides the one described in your post or that's all?
In that way I can advise you different things or how to proceed

Hi, you can do it following this path:
Open windows settings > system > storage > advance storage options (only if you’re on windows 11) > where new content is saved > under “Apps” select the desired drive

If the issue persists try creating a new NTFS partition and try installing Forza there (don’t forget to select this partition as where new apps are going to be installed, you can follow the steps given previously)
