    Free-to-play games will be playable without Gold, but Gold will still be required for non-free games. So Fortnite you can play without Gold. Call of Duty would need Gold.

    Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. I have split your post into its own thread. Unfortunately, there has not been any news regarding fortnite becoming available to play without Gold. The gold subscription is needed for any online multiplayer game,
    including free games.

    The price helps keep servers up and running, and secure. Also, think of all the other great things you get with gold. You get the ability to play online,

    deals with gold    , and
    free games with gold     every month.

    I prefer the fairness of Microsoft's system, since it treats all players and developers equally, in their respective areas. I think we can all support fairness.

    You will need an XBox Gold membership to play any games online. You can also buy monthly XBox gold cards.
    PS also requires their memberships to play online games

    Except of Fortnite, reason is that they are rising their console profit selling rate by making fortnite free to play without membership

    Then why not xbox can make fortnite free to play without xbox live gold membership
