Xbox Live Gold is required for any multiplayer content on the Xbox Platforms, This has been a requirement throughout the years that Xbox Live Gold has been available. so to remove the "Xbox Live Gold" feature from this one game may cause issues.

I don't see this as an effective change since this may cause an outrage to other users who have purchased the "Live" services throughout the years just to find out that some "Multiplayer games are suddenly free".
