Fortnite Payment

Hi,

Through my son’s account a series of payments, totalling £50, were taken on fortnite. I didn’t know until I went to send an email and saw the payment confirmations. My son is denying responsibility and I’ve had a refund request denied. Is my son lying or
could his account have been hacked in some way?

Yes, I’m stupid for not realise my card was attached to his account but I can’t afford to lose this amount of money.

There is error like:

There was an error trying to proceed subscription for Fortnite Crew, try the following:

- Some error with previous subscription visit account.microsoft.com/services

- Visit account.microsoft.com/billing/payments and make sure that you have valid payments

- Contact Fortnite support

So trying here as well.

If you have access to your son's account, simply go to
https://commerce.microsoft.comand check his order history.

Every order is listed there with timestamps.

If your son claims, his account was hacked and someone else did it, you can go to https://account.live.com/Activity to check his account's sign in activity with a small map
next to it.

Be aware, that the map does NOT show your actual residential address, but the location where your Internet Provider connects you (and several other customers from your area) to the Internet.

But if a hacker used a different Internet Provider, or is from a vastly different area, you will see the location of the sign in differ.

That way you can check if your son is lying or if his account was actually hacked.

If this page proves your son was lying, take the spent amount from his allowance or something like that.

If the account was hacked, go to
https://account.live.com/Proofs/Manage and check the security info on your son's account. Make sure the hacker didn't add their own email or phone number, and remove any unknown phone numbers and emails. Otherwise the hacker is able to recover the account
again.

Also, make sure your son's phone number and secondary email are correct and up-to-date.

If your son used the same password on multiple accounts (e.g. the same password for Xbox and his own email), change both to be different. Otherwise the hacker could use your son's hacked email to recover the account again.

After you made sure the security info is correct, change the password on your son's account if not already done so.

And MOST IMPORTANTLY: Enable Two Step Verification (TSV) on your son's account (and your own account as well).

After enabling TSV, you both set up the free Authenticator App on your smartphones (if your son owns a smartphone himself).

With TSV and the Authenticator App enabled, a hacker would have to also physically steal your phone to access your account(s), as Microsoft will ask for a secret code whenever someone (e.g. a hacker) tries to sign into your accounts from a foreign device.

Thank you for reaching out. Even if you were denied a refund from us, you could try requesting one from

Epic Games themselves. Make sure to remove your card from file if you haven't done so already. As far as your son's account goes, it is unlikely that it was "hacked" but we still recommend you secure it by

resetting the password.

You could also try and call your financial institution and say that there was an unauthorised debit made from your account.
