Fortnite parental control/xbox

Hello, I set up my sons Fortnite again using his email so it wasn't under mine, and when the parental options came up, I chose to allow him to add/talk to friends. I set up the pin it asked me to do, and he has never been able to add friends. We have tried resetting the pin so many times and going into the settings, but it never seems to work. Any idea on how to fix this? Or should I direct my question to fortnite or Xbox?

Hi Jessica,

Are you controlling your sons account through the family safety features of your Microsoft account or just through the options on the Xbox itself? I ask because I control friend requests through the family safety app on my phone and wasnt asked to set up a pin for my son.

Personally I would set up the family safety app if only because of the level of control it gives you over screen time, spending, and other content your kids are consuming.

You could try removing the pin lock on your sons account and then reapplying the lock via the family safety app. Its off by default as far as I am aware so you should see friend requests or lists of friends your son already has.

Hi there, I am controlling it through xbox itself. I could attempt to set up a Microsoft safety account, but I don't want to further mess up any settings that are already in place. I'm thinking maybe I should contact Xbox directly. Or Epic games... I'm not sure....

Thanks for your help - annoying that they don’t make this fully clear to unwitting parents buying kids xboxes.

Will he also lose in-game purchases? like on fortnite etc…

Is there no way to convert the existing account into a child's account or otherwise apply parental controls to it?
