Fortnite Cross Platform Play on Child Account

My children play fortnite with each other and their friends on PS4 and Switch but my one son would rather play on our XBOX One. But for some reason his account always says that he can't play cross platform. why is this? Seems ridiculous that Microsoft
wouldn't want kids playing the most popular game on their system. I've opened up all the security features to "Everyone" or "Allow" so nothing is blocked. But the option in the fortnite settings menu to allow cross platform parties, never shows up when
on his account. I see this option when I sign into my account so I know what I'm looking for. I feel like I'm missing something or does Microsoft truly want to push all my families playing onto other systems by not allowing child accounts to play cross platform?
Please help if there is a way to make this work. Again, I've already opened up all the security settings under manage family accounts for him and allowed everything I can find.

Xbox one cross platform play on Fortnite

Because of this issue with cross platform playing on Fortnite in a child’s account, is there a workaround?

Can we use the adult account and sign into Fortnite using the childs details so we can play with the saved game play up to now? That way we can play cross platform on adult’s account?

When I go to play Fortnite cross platform on Xbox it brings up an error message that I cannot join the cross platform party. When I go into settings in Fortnite to change the option to allow cross platform parties, it does not appear. I am able to play
cross platform parties when on a computer. From what I have seen on the internet, the Xbox account has to be an adult account, but I cannot figure out how to promote a child account to an adult account.

 

Aside of an xbox gamertag they need to have an epic account too just for the crossplay to any other console...

 

yes, they each have epic accounts, they are signed into their epic accounts on PS4 and on Switch, sometimes on my computer. They can play cross platform on each of those with their epic accounts. Just not on Xbox One.

I am having he same issue. What I found so far is if your child is under 13 it will not work. You will need to change your childs age. I have done that already but still nothing. I am going to unlink and relink accounts next.

 

Since I don't work at Epic or Microsoft, this is pure speculation on my end, but as others already mentioned, this behavior happens, when the account of your child is under the age of 13 according to the birthdate entered into the Xbox account.

When I created my PSN and Nintendo accounts, I wasn't asked for my birthdate (the accounts were created long ago on a PS3, Vita and 3DS, I don't know if the birthdate is now a requirement for PS4 and Switch).

So it COULD be, that Xbox transmits a birthdate when linking the Xbox Gamertag with an Epic account, and if that birthdate shows the kid's age to be below the age of 13, and some child protection laws prohibit to collect personal data of children under the
age of 13, it might be that Epic prevents cross platform gameplay if the child is under the age of 13.

So please
contact Epic support for that issue, as this seems to be a problem how Epic handles younger children accounts for Xbox.

 

I've had the same issue with my child's Xbox account. The issue is The child account has restrictions on allowing cross-platform on the Xbox. I haven't heard of a time frame on when or if this will change.

 

My kids have this same issue. An earlier post states this was a known issue and it is. I think another post may be right and it could be the similar to the Battlefront issue where if they are younger than 13 then other limitations kick in. My kid is
12 but could not play BF2 with his friends because EA wants them to be 13.

 

I've had the exact same problem. I've been in contact with Epic Games. They said to contact Microsoft. Someone please let us know when there's a fix!

 

This is not an Epic games issue its on Microsoft. My daughter couldnt even have a custom gamer pic until She was on an Adult account even though I changed her age and settings to allow it. Now She can cross platform with me on PS4. Microsoft needs to stop
passing the buck and fix the issue.

 

You guys need to give us a way to change the age in the settings in the meantime. My son is losing interest in Xbox and has been playing on PS4 more because of this.

We are aware of the issue. It was put in intentionally due to Microsoft wanting the parent account to be allowed to manage the option for cross platform play or not. Unfortunately, it taking longer than
expected to add it to the settings for parents to manage. We expect an update on this situation soon.
