Fornite cross platform

Hello,

First off thank you to whomever is reading this, I appreciate your help more than you know!! I’m trying to help my son play Fortnite with his friends who play on a PS4. I have read so many articles and watched many videos this last week on how to do this,
but none of them seem to work. I was hoping I could have someone else to troubleshoot with and help me figure out what I’m missing. Also, i have heard differing opinions that an Xbox One player can’t play with a PS4 player, but again, that just might be old
news because I know it was within the last year or two that companies solved the cross platform problem so to speak, ie pc players can play with Xbox and mobile and vice versa. So thats probably question number one.

If it is possible my son to play fortnite on our xbox one and be able to add his friends who have a PS 4 somehow, I’m all ears! Any ideas/tips/etc are appreciated.

Some or the things I have done thus far os make sure our settings are all “available” or open to “everybody” as far as our privacy settings possibly being the culprit. I read that I need the ps4 players Epic name, not there ps4 username or whatnot but
some if his friends dont understand that. They just give him their screen name, so if that’s the case, I’ve got to try and find out how to direct these kids to be able to see that easily enough to give us that name. I went on Epic.com and signed in with our
Xbox account so its linked (but from my understanding, all that does is ensure whatever progress is made on a certain game, it will be synced no matter the device you’re playing on, so that shouldn’t matter in regards to what I am trying to do. Hmmmm... what
else. Oh, we have Xbox live, so I signed into that. One thing I am curious if it matters is we never bought the Xbox game, we play the free version on Xbox. So if my son wanted to play ‘Save the World’ for example, we’d have to buy that. But again, he should
be able to play with friends in the Battle Royale section, right? One thing that was promising last night was one of his friends has xbox as well and we were able to add him as a friend! So at least we know we did something right. Still is seems the few he
wants to play with have ps4. Alright, I’ll stop blabbering so this post isn’t any longer!
