Formatting new HDD

    Hey,

today I was connecting a new HDD to my Series S the first time.

During the formatting process I was asked if Iwant to use it only with this console or also with other consoles ?

    I answered also with others.

But why is the system asking that ? What makes the difference ?

Btw I can't install GtA and some other games on the HDD - has that something to do with that question ?

    :)

Hello [EX], sorry to hear you're having trouble.

The system asks this in case you're planning to moving the drive back and forth between consoles so it makes it easier for you to do so. As for the installing issue, games that are for Series X/S can only be played on the internal drive of the console and not an external drive so this would be why it's denying you the ability to install to the external.

But if you'd like to try you can install the games to your internal drive then just Move them back and forth from internal to external as you'd like to play them.

Cant connect on xboxlive with new console

I know from some previous issues with a new Xbox 360 Slim 4GB that the users had to first format the HDD to sort it out. I assume you have nothing stored on this HDD. If so, try format the HDD.

External hard drive is not detected

Of course, formatting erases existing data. I thought the HDD was new... However it could be a file system problem. Check the HDD properties to see if it's FAT32 or NTFS. You should copy the data to another HDD (or on PC), format the HDD from the console
or PC and copy the saved data.

    Hdd transfer problems
so if you format the HDD and than transfer it will make the new HDD the same size as the old HDD?
When attached to the console HDD connector, formatting just erases all the files stored on the drive.

When connected to a 3rd party Transfer Cable, formatting turns the drive into one big FAT32 partition and then places the USB Memory Unit file structure overtop of that.

Never format a 360 HDD connected via the Transfer Cable. A proper cable greys out the Format option in System Settings, Memory under Device Options (hit Y).
