    Hello,

    I'm giving my 360 away and would like to know how to format the drive so it's like new from the factory.

    If I just format the drive would it still it useable as is or does it need some system files installed.

    Settings, Memory?
    Maybe nothing, but to find out I'd have to reinstall MacDrive and then format a USB HDD or USB flash drive to HFS+. Not really up to doing that at the moment.



    I have tested this before, but pre-Kinect update. The Zune PC version of Halo Legends is over 5GB in size. I put it on an HFS+-formatted USB HDD and it played fine on the console.

    I play a 7gb HD .wmv file on my 360 without a problem, though I confess that is streamed from my PC so perhaps the 4gb limit is only for drives connected directly to the console?

    It might be because you are streaming it. But the 360 will accept either FAT32 or HFS+.

    The downside of FAT32 is that you cannot have a single file that is bigger than 4GB whereas you can with HFS+.

    Formatting Hard Drive.

    1.Start your Xbox 360 console without a disc in the tray.

    2.Go to the Settings hub, and choose System.

    3.Select Storage.

    4.Highlight the storage device that you want to format, and then press the Y button on your controller.

    There is a limitation to 3 Game HDD..

    Formatting Hard Drive

    The Format Hard Drive function is also there so that you can format external USB 3.0 HDD's with the appropriate Xbox partition for saving games etc. By default, a new external HDD would come with a FAT or NTFS partition which cannot be used for installing
    Xbox games. A NTFS partitioned external hard drive can be used however for extended Game DVR clips.

    Hi,

    Game updates can only be downloaded on to the drive the game is installed to, regardless of what drive is now default for installing or downloading new content. So, if you had have a game on the internal drive, it needs an update but you
    don't have enough space, you would need to do one of the following.

    1. Move the game to the external drive with the free space.

    2. Or delete content on the drive where the game is located to allow the game to be updated.

    This should prevent any confusion in the future.
