Formatted a External to use on my Xbox One but now my computer is not recognizing it

So i recently formatted a 1TB external HDD to use with my Xbox One. Normally what I've done in the past is attach the external to my computer and load it up with movies and music files that i then play on my system (Xbox 360) using the video player and/or
music player. It does not seem to be working the same way it did with my 360. Can someone please help me with this. I would say i'm pretty computer literate but can't seem to find this answer in any forum. So to reiterate, my newly formatted external hdd has
been formatted by my Xbox one but is not being recognized by my computer, which is not allowing me to load it with music in order to play them on the ONE. Thanks in advance for all of your suggestions and wisdom!

    :)

  2. Is there a way to use an External hard drive for both Xbox One and Pc?

Kinda figured that out. My xbox is not recognizing my hard drive anymore. I formatted it to my computer and then restored it back to factory settings. I would like to format it back to my xbox one. But it doesn't give me the option when I plug it in to my xbox

Xbox One External HDD Revert Back HELP!

Hi, I have just formatted my external HDD for use on xbox one. I only wanted to see if it works (which it does) but now I don't know how to revert it back to a normal external HDD. My computer
doesn't recognize it at all. Only instructions from Xbox is how to format it again for use with xbox one. Bit annoyed tbf. Am only interested in external hdd use to play my movies, tv shows etc on it not for a storage device. The console being as expensive
as it was it should of had sufficient space in the first place. Anyway thats a different issue. Can anyone help on this? Thanks

Hi K00MM00! Scoob is 100% correct, a hard drive which has been formatted for Xbox One use is not recognizable by a PC, and vice versa, without a reformat.

There IS an option out there, but I have not tried it, so I can't vouch for its worth. There is a tool called "Xbox One Drive Converter" which will allow you to switch something called the "MBR" or Master Boot Record. This is rewritten when the hard drive
is formatted to the Xbox One. If you then take that hard drive and plug it into your PC and run the Xbox One Drive Converter, you should see the drive in Xbox One format and can switch it back to PC format without reformatting - this will allow you to use
the remaining space for media storage, etc.

Again, I can't vouch for the usefulness of this program since I haven't tried it myself, but it sounds reasonable. If you want to give it a try for yourself, click the following link:

    digiex.net/.../13584-copy-extract-content-xbox-one-usb-formatted-drive-windows-pc.html
(Scroll down and you'll find a post from the developer with an updated version.)

The Xbox One uses a different format for game installation as stated by those above, and requires USB 3.0 as well as being bigger than 250GB. If you want to use an external drive for media, (movies, music, etc.) you will need to use a different hard drive
or USB flash storage. You would format that on your PC as you would normally, then load your media on that. Media drives for the One do not have the same requirements as those for a game installation drive - there is no minimum size and USB 2.0 is fine.

  7. I tried out the converter and it currently works, and have not had any issues. Defintiely a great tool to use, just remember to switch back to Xbox Mode when you connect it to play games on your Xbox.

There is a conversion app out there, but I have not tried it as it is unnecessary. Go to "Computer" on older Windows PCs or "This PC" on Windows 10. right click and the first option should be "Manage," choose that and the Computer Management screen should
come up with all of your drives. You should see the unformatted one as Online, but with no drive letter or format type to it. Select the drive then on the right side choose "More Actions" then "All Tasks" then "Extend Volume." A Wizard window should pop up,
allowing you to choose the full size of the drive as the extended volume, then formatting the disk back to a PC usable format. Hope this helps everybody.
