    Multipurpose External Hard Drive

It is not possible. Xbox format the HDD for itself inserts files into it. And it determines the HDD as an Xbox to connect to this HDD but you can not save anything on it. If you try to do this, it will prompt you to format the HDD.

    Hey Eagl4ever

Please try format too a xbox 360 before formatting it to the Xbox one it seems if you format it too anything running Fat32 first it'll read the HDD afterwards.

    Defragment hard drive

All HDD or SSD drives that you use to save games on Xbox One consoles are formatted with a proprietary format. You will be unable to defrag those drives because there is no utility to do so for this Xbox proprietary format.

    External HDD

Yes External HDD support is available. The External HDD must be at least 256GB in size and use USB 3.0. Keep in mind that the External HDD will have to be formatted for use with the Xbox One console.
