if you cannot access the account due to forgetting the password and not having 2 factor authentication on then they have to ask other questions to prove the account is yours, this is the same with other companies too.

the only thing you can try is to either try and reset the password or to recover the Microsoft account.

App password is a two-factor authentication measure for Microsoft devices that do not support other TFA measures. In order to download a profile, it requires an app password.
