Forever Stuck in the Sign-In screen for Halo Infinite

When I tried to first log into Halo I forgot my password, then I tried to log in using a phone number. Turns out I never linked my my phone number so then it started to have me make an account. From there it wouldn't let me back out, so I messed around and put in an email defaming Microsoft. At the time I figured if I keep going forward the button to restart would appear, turns out it doesn't. And of course the email I entered is too long to even exist, so I cant even just make a new email and change it later. Whenever I get on the game it remembers where I was at, and is waiting for a verification code. And as if to taunt me, it gives me the option to fix my email for a "typo" but this only takes me to a screen where it tells me to change usernames and then gets frozen. I can click on the cancel and continue button, but they don't do anything.

I've tried opening and closing the game, restarting my PC (I should mention I downloaded the beta through steam) and using task manager to close Gaming Services which has an Xbox icon so I figured I'd give it a shot. I've also deleted and reinstalled the game and it didn't change. And on top of that I've gone through my steam user data and deleted the json file for Halo Infinite, and of course that also didn't do anything. From my understanding this is through Microsoft's side of things and Steam has nothing to do with it

Possible solutions are to:

Call Microsoft support - Currently where I live it's 3 AM, I'm pretty sure nobody is going to pick up, and apparently they're getting a bunch of phone calls.

Format My PC to completely reset the Microsoft thing - Yeah no way I'm doing that.

Buy another PC/an Xbox to play it on there - Also not happening.

I should mention that I don't have it setup to where when I log into to the admin account (my only one) for my desktop I purposefully don't have it connected to Microsoft. I'm wondering that if I were to it would just bypass the entire sign in and just use the account connected to the desktop profile. I tried doing this earlier but it seems I don't know my windows password as well.

I have this issue too. I even tried reinstalling the game... Nothing.
Is there a way to make the game forget about the current account it's trying to log into?

Hello SaintRaymond,

I'm glad to hear you're able to access the game on the Windows app! Fortunately, Halo Infinite does support cross-progression so your progress on the Xbox app will carry over to the Steam version of the game (just as long as you're successfully playing on your Xbox/Microsoft account).

I do have one potential fix that I'd like for you to try; In the Steam app, can you please go to your Steam Settings > Web Browser > then "delete web browser cache and cookies.

In the meantime, I will continue to look into this error and I'll respond back to your thread once I gather more information. Thank you for your patience in trying to find a fix, I understand how frustrating this can be.

I'm delighted to hear that you're now able to play Halo Infinite on Steam! If you have not done so already, there should be an option that says "Did this reply solve your problem" underneath my response from November 22nd. You have good taste! Back to the login error; thank you for providing images of what you're seeing. Before I look further into this, can you please confirm that you relinked your Steam account after unlinking it?

As for the screens you're receiving, did these appear after you initiated a password reset, including entering the security code?

And finally, are you entering an email address as a new username or creating an alias/Gamertag? I'm curious to know what happens if you type in a tag such as "SaintRaymond" or any alias you typically go by on Steam, Origin, etc.

It worked!

Doing that worked like a charm, and now I'm able to play Infinite on Steam. Thanks a lot for all of your help and kindness Tali!

Oh, and one last thing, how do I go about marking this thread as answered? I don't see the button anywhere and I tried to edit my replies but I couldn't find any way to do so.

Hey Tali,

Just want to confirm that I indeed re-linked my account. Before I unlinked it, the screen displayed my old steam username instead of my current one. I thought maybe that could be the issue so I did it as possible troubleshooting. It now currently displays my new steam username and the accounts are linked.

To be honest Tali, I can't remember all too well if I did the password before or after, but I'm im pretty sure I did it after seeing those screens for the first time. This includes the security code as well.

And finally when I go to type something in the bar on the screen that says "Change Your Username" whether it be an email or a new username the result remains the same. After entering the new text, the screen freezes so to speak. The UI elements are all still moving and responding, and the visual background still plays. But upon clicking "Enter" or "Cancel" nothing happens. The buttons indent and the sound effect of interacting with an icon plays, but nothing proceeds. Afterwards, I'm stuck in that screen, unable to click cancel and go back. However when clicking the text "Terms of Use" "Privacy & Cookies" the text boxes appear that associate with the respective ones. From there I am able to click out of it and return to the "Change Your Username" but nothing is resolved and the buttons still don't cause any response.

I should mention that I've downloaded the game through the windows store and I was able to log in and play in there. Actually funnily enough the screen where I'm to link my microsoft account is completely skipped. I've been playing on there for the meantime but I really do hope this is resolved soon, as I have already purchased the campaign through Steam months ago and cannot get a refund.

In terms of playing through the windows download, I have a question about how data is kept. I'm wondering if my multiplayer data will be transferred to Steam after this issue is resolved. I have bought credits and the premium battle pass. I'm curious whether or not my purchases will carry over as well.

Beyond that I'm not sure anything else I can tell you to assist you in helping me out. My only idea for a solution is for game programmers to alter the log in screen to allow a back arrow to take you to the beginning of the log in process. Doing so will resolve this issue quit easily I think, but I also don't know anything about programming so this is just a guess.
