Forced to re-verify a child account - why?

This evening, my son's Microsoft account stopped working - xbox live, Windows 8.1 sign in, web sign in, etc. After some annoying detective work, I finally figured out that I had to sign in with my account and verify that his account was authorized. Why
the sudden change? He's been using his child account with my approval for over a year. Do child accounts require re-verification after some set length of time? Or did his verification get canceled when I recently changed the password on my own MS account?

    :)

When a child account became orphaned for any reason, you need to contact Xbox support. they'll be able to investigate your request and, if elegible, to re-add an adult account to your child account

Note: In these case, the adult account owner must contact support for this request, not the child, and inform and verify both accounts

    Good luck

Can you try to re-associate the child account to the parent account? To do so:

    1. Sign in to your Microsoft account and select the
      Family tab.
    2. Select Add a child.
    3. Enter the email address of the child account that you want to re-associate with the parent account. This will send an invitation to the child account’s email address.
    4. Sign out of your Microsoft account and sign in to the child account.

Note For security reasons, you may be asked to verify the account.
    5. Select the button labeled Sign in and accept.

Note Email can be found by selecting View inbox.

    Hi,

The reason why you had to re-verify the child account is due to recent security/policy update in the system.

Adding my child's xbox 360 account to xbox one -- wanted me to sign in as my adult account (this one) I did. I paid the 50 cents and it still keeps repeating same process.

I called Support about this. This is what they did to fix my "looping" issue with the Age Verification:

Per COPPA, Microsoft will need to bill .50 cents for each Microsoft account being associated to the Child account, as well as the Child account. 1 Dad, 1 Mom, 1 Child = $1.50. Ok, makes sense...

Of course, with people contacting Customer Support about this issue now, Microsoft will be investigating as to why it "loops" after paying for the age verification.

Normal rule of thumb with accounts: Delete Profile and Re-Download Profile to Hard Drive and/or Turn off device and turn back on after update/verification/etc. and sign back into profile on said device.

If after these steps you are still having a "loop" issue, you should then contact Microsoft Support and let them know the troubleshooting steps you followed and are still having the "loop" issue.

You'll want to make sure you have 2 verified contact information (alternate email, cell #, etc.) "Security Proofs" on each of the Microsoft accounts (i.e.: Dad has 2 verified additional contact methods, Mom has 2 verified additional contact methods, Child
has 2 verified additional contact methods). account.live.com/proofs

It seems that the Customer Care Advocacy Team is their investigative department.

My issue was resolved after the delete and re-download/turn off and turn back on troubleshooting steps and verified Security Proofs on my account and my child...

    I hope this helps...

Since the backward compatibility update I can not access my main account on the Xbox one

    Hi sorenthetall512!

Base from what's happening with your account. It seems that your account is a child account that was removed from a family or from a parental account by force or due to the parent account being inactive. If the account is still considered as child by the
system, then you will definitely get issues like this one especially on the xbox one.

If you still know the original parent account, you could try to sign in that account on the xbox one console then try to re-add your account on the Family tab settings. But this is not a guaranteed work around. If this fails, I would suggest contacting support
so they could verify your account and check if the account has been removed from a previous family setting. From there, they might be able to escalate the case to a higher team to re-add the original parent email or a new one.
