Forced Language / region settings

Hi,

I think many people are complaining about this issue but I have not read any official statement/solution to it yet so I'll ask again.

I live in Spain but would like to set my Xbox to English language and play the games in English as well. The only way to do so is by changing my region to an English speaking one (i.e. UK). This works as long as I do not want to purchase anything in the store,
as this will then require a payment method/credit card from my region. Since my credit card is spanish, i cannot buy anything. neither will the Xbox recognise my Xbox Live Gold subscription which was done with a spanish card, when it is set to another region.

Can someone explain me the logic behind all this (it doesn't make sense at all) and why Microsoft assumes that people who live in a certain country only speak the local language? I'm quite amazed that an issue like this can persist since the launch of this
console and has not been solved yet.

Sadly, there's no way to set the system language to English if you don't live in an English speaking country. I have the same problem, I absolutely hate the Brazilian Portuguese dubbed games and keep my settings as English/Canada (because Canada is more awesome, sorry US), but can't use credit card or Xbox Movies without resetting the system.
For now, the best we can do is vote in one of the several Xbox Feedback demands to dissociate languages from region on Xbox or let you download games on a language different from the system language.

Maximinn, try setting you console locale to USA. This is not the region of the console, but rather the locale/language settings of the console.

You can find this setting under Settings > System Settings > Console Settings > Language and Locale.

The account region should not affect the language of the game if your console language and locale settings override that. However, you cannot get benefits that the other region gets, but you can play your game in a language different from your account region.

Content is always published in the language of majority in a region

Having an English dashboard won't have any effect since content would be in Spanish anyways

You would have the Spanish localized copy to comply with content laws

Every game is published per region and then you have music and content licenses

If for example English songs are paid and distributed to 20 English regions then it nwould be 20 English regions not 21 or 100 why publish in regions where it would be less then 1% English when it would cost publishers more to add one or two more regions

Usually it is generally accepted that a language spoken by 99% of the region speakers is the language of majority

Not 1% English this prevents mistaken purchases and marketplace fraud

 

It's the language of majority that decides the language of region it's common sense

 

Hi,

what you say just really doesn't make sense. Delivering region specific content is not based not he language the console is set to. This is just a really bad design.

Example: my phone is set to english language but i have a spanish account for the app store, and therefore access to the content for my region only.

The Xbox allows me to set the Language to English for example and the region to Czech Republic or Greece, but not Spain. It doesn't make sense.

I'd like someone from Microsoft to provide an official statement on this issue.

And yes, having an english dashboard makes a difference. Games automatically launch in the language the dashboard is set to and it is not possible to change the language inside the game.

If I launch Halo, all the voices will be in spanish if i have my region set to spain. Once I change that to UK, the language of the game automatically changes to English

 

And there's another annoying thing. My dashboard is currently 70% English and 30% localized. Now, that makes no sense.

Do you also have that problem? Some parts in Spanish and the rest in English? It's somewhat schizophrenic!
