Forced Gamer tag change

So a couple of days ago, I was suddenly no longer to login to xBox Live with my profile. No explanation as to why. I was simply informed that something was wrong with my profile and that I needed to download it again. When I finally downloaded my profile
again, it was my profile but my gamer tag was changed. I went from Dr ItchyN1pple to SaltyCub6293490 with no explanation as to why.

I've had my old GT for over a decade and all of a sudden it changes. I can only assume it is one of two things. Microsoft *** up or my gamer tag arbitrarily ran afoul of the ToS (after 10 years) in some form or fashion. Now, if it's the former then I
really need someone to help me out and get it fixed. If it's the latter, then I get that a change was warranted. If my gamer tag was in violation of the ToS then so be it. However, I would have like the chance to pick a new gamer tag myself rather than
have something forced on me.

Is there a way for me to select my own gamer tag because the one you folks gave me blows.

The new policy is that you're given a random name upon being given a Forced Name Change. You should have known that it was against the rules and would eventually happen. Unfortunately, since it happened after the policy was changed, you'll have to pay $9.99
to choose a new name.

 

Help me understand how I could have possibly known my previous gamer tag was "against the rules" as you put it.

Do actual Policy Enforcement people actually frequent these forums because the whole thing feels very subjective to me. I just want to understand exactly why my previous gamer tag was targeted as there was no course language, nothing sexual or racial or
discriminatory or anything else. At least, that's what I think.

I was instructed by MS Support to post in this forum so I'm hoping someone can actually tell me what happened here rather than folks guessing or speculating.

 

You have "nipple" in the name and that's considered inappropriate. Someone finally reported it and it was changed.

 

I guess it's not going to do me any good to argue semantics as it appears the MS gods have spoken.

Do Enforcement Team personnel actually respond here or am I just wasting my breath chatting with Ambassadors?

my name is thomas just a few minutes ago i received an email stating that my gamertag was deemed inappropriate and was forcefully changed .

i how ever disagree with this, first off i have seen a few tags be changed before in the past but they were much much worse then mine which was xxsugartitz24. see not that bad i feel as tho i was reported by people just simply for winning against them in
a round of halo. i feel this because i have had this tag for almost a year now and have had not a single problem from anyone online or from xbox in regards to my gamertag . i do not mind it having to be changed but i dont feel as tho i should have to live
with the god awful name xbox chose for me which is . i will not continue to use either of my two accounts if i cannot choose my own name for the account i purchase, key word there purchase . i refuse to pay ten dollars to change it myself .
now im emailing you cause thats what xbox live customer service told me to do , which was get online on this exact forum and ask somebody . so im asking you is there anything you can do to

 

Please read the rest of this thread. The only way you can change your name is to pay for a change. It doesn't matter why anyone else filed a complaint on you, it only takes one valid complaint for the enforcement team to investigate your account and if you
have anything that violates the code of conduct or terms of service, they will take action.

no you need to explain to me how xbox feels it gets to decide what the name of an account that i own needs to be after deeming mines not fit to be online . i understand my name can be found offensive to some people but lets remember its mine i pay for it
it belongs to me . a simple email stating that untill i change the name i cant play then it should prompt me to change the name and let me . but changing it for me when its the only personal touch i get to add to my account to make it mine, and then forcing
me to pay to change it, almost portrays this situation as me being stolen from . i have accounts under such names as
[Mod Removed] this list goes on and on and maybe only two of these have had i forced name change so i know that xbox doesnt have people monitoring the names when they are chosen to deem them inappropiate . xbox waits untill another player
of pour sportsmanship and character who cant take a joke to report you. which is normally after the 30 days. then they force a change and leave you having to purchase your name back thats terrible customer service bro . xbox is an online vidoegame community
. communities dont cater to only age class . if you dont want your children reading my gamertag then dont let them online why should some customers have to pay for the feelings standards and beliefs of someone else . i have paid xbox and microsoft well over
3000 dollars since xbox dropped and today they lost me as a customer

random generated gt is final unless a ten dollar purchase is applied . ?????? why ? when did this come about

 

It doesn't matter if it's paid for. You agree to the Code of Conduct/Terms of Use. I know it sucks losing out on the money. But you don't own anything. Microsoft owns all of our gamertags. We're basically being allowed to use them on their service man.
