For some reason, I've had Xbox Gold for over a year without paying. How?

Ok, so I've had Xbox Gold for free for a long time now, and I have no idea how. I have not been charged at all. Just yesterday it stopped working and I was unable to play online.

What happened?

Re-downloading Minecraft Xbox One Edition

I downloaded Minecraft back when it was $5. I had it on my Xbox, deleted it for some reason, and now I can't find a way to re-download it without paying $20.

It's possible someone else had your console set as their Home console. You would have had access to their subscription.

I remember back in the day you could only buy Gold through the Xbox dashboard and it was £39.99. There was no shopping elsewhere, you had to pay that price.

Nowadays, I haven't paid over £30 since the 360 release. I've wasted far more than that on other stuff in my life, so consider it a reasonable price for the enjoyment I get over the course of a year.

Benefits and rewards? Well...I have some great chats and never have to game alone; unless I choose to. I've also met some real friends, over XBL...not just the eFriend type.
