The fact that you are getting a strict nat sometimes tells me your router is doing its job , some of your problems may lie there , what kind is it ?

Managed to work the settings so that the NAT was open but still didn't work. I'm struggling to get my head round why this would prevent the games from loading? Usually it just kicks me from the server or stops me chatting with friends.

It sounds like you're issue is slow downloads or slow logins which can often indicate an issue connecting to the servers. I'd suggestion running through the connection troubleshooting available on the support website to make sure your connection is set

i wouls start with a power reset. hold the power button till it turns off then uplug for 5 mins and reconnect.

If the above possible solutions doesnt work try to
Factory Reset your console.

Note: To not lose the installations choose "keep my games and apps", this will "clean install" the current operative system and you only will need to do the first configuration (like a new console).

Either try performing a power cycle, or unplug your console for 30 minutes. I would also suggest contacting support about this issue.

I suggest you to use the cable to connect to the internet, setting a satico IP address and opening the NAT ports, for a better experience on Xbox Live
