    The question above more or less states my problem. I know my friends are online, I can see that they are online through the Xbox application, but when I look under the friends tab, nothing shows up. I have checked my network status in Xbox console companion and everything is how it should be. My NAT type is 'open' and Server connectivity says it is connected.

    Based on your description, you can see that your friends are online through the Xbox application, but they aren't showing on the friends tab. Let me help you on this.

    Here's how to find your friends on their Microsoft accounts.

    1. Sign into your Microsoft account and click Play on the home screen.
    2. Tab to the right to reach the Friends tab. 
    3. Click Add Friend. 
    4. Find friends by entering their Microsoft Gamertag in the Search box. 
    Make sure you are entering your friend’s Gamertag correctly. Note: You may only enter a Microsoft Gamertag as a player ID. Player IDs from other platforms are not supported at this time.

    I would assume you are trying to download on a windows pc.

    You will have to install the minecraft launcher first.

    To play Minecraft: Java Edition, download and install the correct launcher for your operating system. Sign into the Launcher using your Microsoft account, and you will be able to run Java Edition.

    To play Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, you will need a device running Windows 10 or 11 to download and install the newest version of the Launcher, within which you can launch and play Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. Sign into the Launcher using your Microsoft account, and you will be able to run Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
