My friends in party chat hear me as distorted and robotic

    Happening to me too.

My friend described it as sounds like I'm underwater.

My mic works perfectly fine on Discord and overwatch 2.

    Very annoying

Using an Sm58 with focusrite audio interface and audio Technica headphones all wired

Windows Xbox app, I sound like a robot underwater to my friends in party chat

I wanted ya'll who are having this problem to know I found a great work around. VB Audio Cables, and VB Voicemeeter virtual mixer. I'm able to setup the Voicemeeter to input my Mic from my audio interface, and route it to a virtual output. I can then change the sound settings for the virtual output to what is being recommended previously in this forum - I think single channel, 48000khz or whatever and then I'm able to use that output/input as my input device in the XBox Gamebar app. Let me know if anyone wants any more information as to how I got this to work. The software is all free and it's really amazing.
Sir Mattickus, you are absolutely a saint. I have been the butt of all jokes for the past 4-months by all my Xbox friends because my $1,500 PC.... sounded like garbage through Xbox Party Chat. I had tried everything that was recommended anywhere else. I had come to the same conclusion that was talked about in your thread, where it had to have something to do with the Xbox software and my Audio Interface software. I use a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 for streaming/music and have 0 issues with any other app.

I was thankfully aware of what a 'Virtual Voicemeter' even was because of streaming. All I did was watch a 4-minute setup video to set-up the software. Then, last but MOST IMPORTANT I was able to switch to 'Single-Channel 48000hz' in my Sound Settings like you stated. Finally, issue is resolved, and I couldn't be happier. Still can't believe it just stopped working one day but what can you do.

    Thanks again!

Friends on Xbox Console hear buzzing coming from my PC mic when using Xbox party chat.

    Yes, this is known issue.

Things which are *not* the cause of the problem that people keep mentioning:

    1. Ground loop: nope, the constant buzzing occurs with both my Logitech webcam as well as my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4.
    2. Bit rate not compatible with party chat syste: nope, I've tried every bit rate available for my 2i4, and none resolve the buzzing.
    3. Bad quality mic: nope, I have a Shure SM7B. It's $400. It's great.
I've never had this problem until now. I had Windows installed on a separate NVMe SSD, worked fine, then I nuke my old install and perform a clean re-install of windows on a second NVMe SSD, and now this is broken.

The digital audio input is fine. All other applications work just fine. If I enable "Listen to this device" in the device properties, the audio signal plays back perfectly -- no buzzing.

The Windows Game Bar, however, is completely broken. Indicates presence of audio even when I'm not talking, and sends buzzing sound to all of my party chat members.

I've found several dozen questions across Reddit and Microsoft Answers, and no one has been able to provide a workaround.

The problem is that the Game Bar is a bug ridden turd, and Microsoft does not seem to care about its users enough to fix their bugs.

    Here's another fun bug:

You can't choose which input device to use -- I mean, you can select in the drop down, but the Game Bar ignores you and keeps using whatever it was using before. The only way to choose a different input device is to go into the Control Panel and DISABLE all other input devices ENTIRELY. There are dozens of reports online like this: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-do-you-choose-a-different-mic-in-game-bar/308f5344-d3a5-4b52-8c7b-5ccc7f104198

Game Bar is broken, and Microsoft doesn't appear to care at all.
