the fact this error got through to release is mind boggling.

Whats really funny is, when you make past the screen where it crashes and it starts to download data, it says "it is recommended that you have the english (US) datapack installed".

I'm having the exact same issue. Faulting module is ucrtbase.dll. Exception code 0xc0000409. I had the game through Steam at first but refunded it after lots of trying. Got it through the Windows store directly and get the same error. I've tried:

• Run as admin
• completely reinstalling anything dotnet related
• completely uninstalling visual studio redists, and installing the most recent ones
• updating Windows (currently on 1909, I'm not getting 2004 yet)
• Graphics drivers uninstall and reinstallation of the most recent version
• Chipset driver update
• Installing the game on different hard drives
• Steam version of the game
• MS store version of the game

I just hope this can be resolved somehow. I'm almost tempted to do a clean windows install but I really don't want to have to do that yet.

Hey phoenix,

My windows 10 was also on English. But if you look in the language settings via the windows 10 settings app you'll see that there is a seperste entry for "app language". Even though my regular language was set on en-us, this other one was set to a different
language. Might be worth checking out. Putting this one on English us changed a few things. It turned the 24hr clock into a 12hr clock for example.

I did find that thread and check to see, but my Win install is native En-US. There are no additional packages to install so unfortunately that was not a solution for my issue.

There should be NO reason to do a reinstall of windows for a game. It's a Microsoft Product, on a Microsoft Platform. We are getting intelligence as to the failure and why. What we are missing is attention from MS support as to why this is occurring and
the resolution. I'm getting more frustrated by the day that their product is non-functional yet they don't seem to be motivated to respond to this.
