    Fix for Playing Installed Xbox Games on a fresh windows install


    After having dealt with this issue multiple times with no fix in sight I have finally found something that might help everyone out.

    Step 1: Open the folder in which the game is located navigate to the exe of the game and run it.
    Step 2: It'll then ask you to login with your xbox account and once you successfully signed in it should exit out of the game completely

    (If you try running it again it wont work)

    Step 3: Navigate over to your Xbox App and search the game you're trying to play. It should now say "Play". Click play and now it should add the game to the installed games list and now it fully works once again like before Fix for Playing Installed Xbox Games on a fresh windows install :)) Hope this helps anyone out there as it helped me.

    did you upgrade or did you do a fresh install, if a fresh install then as the windows games are placed in an encrypted folder this breaks as it is tied to the one install of windows, you would need to re download the games if that is the case.

    if upgraded then they should still work ok and are located under the xbox app in the library.

    It was working until last 2017 last checked in November/December. I had to do a fresh installation of Windows 10 and have got this annoying error. The last time it happened I had to find an installer from 2015 to get it to work and a fresh installation,
    which I am not prepared to do this time. I want to play the games I purchased digitally and the DLCs.
    I also tried on another pc on which I did a fresh windows 7 installation and I still got the same error. Microsoft please fix this as you have been told since March of this year.

    I am having the same issue and can confirm, a fresh windows install will NOT FIX THE ISSUE. i have been battling this issue for months now and had no success in fixing it, finally resorted to a fresh os install and have had zero success

    The only thing that worked for me was a fresh windows install(you have to install all your games again). I tried every tricks in the book that i know off and the only thing that worked was a fresh windows install. Halo mcc works perfecktly after that.

    Hi,

    Windows 10 games and apps does it differently. The games are encrypted and this encryption is unique to the Windows install. If you install Windows fresh again (even on the same PC) the games will be locked. You will to need to delete the WindowsApps folder to reclaim the space and install the games again.
