    Fix Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio Lag


    When is Microsoft going to fix the Dolby Digital 5.1 audio lag from the Xbox One S? If I select Bitstream/Dolby Digital while watching a Blu-Ray the sound is AMAZING but there's a noticeable issue with audio lag. The words are behind what's happening on
    the screen and it's impossible to sync.

    The only way to fix this is to select 5.1 Uncompressed but then you only get Stereo sound with no 5.1 (which sucks since I invested in surround sound).

    It looks like this issue has been brought up before and it plagues the Xbox One S system - but there hasn't been a fix yet.

    5.1 Surround Sound Doesn't Work Properly on Xbox One

    Using bitstream causes audio lag for me with either dolby or DTS. Using stereo or 5.1 uncompressed fixes this issue. However, 5.1 uncompressed has the same issues as noted above. I am left with having to use stereo sound.

    No audio via optical output

    That would be great if that were an option, but it isn't. The only audio options are to set it to Digital Stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1, or Dolby Digital 5.1 w/ WMA; there are no options that I could find to force the audio to optical. If there is, maybe you
    could point me to where that option lives?

    5.1 Uncompressed audio via HDMI connection

    It isn't possible for any TV to pass through uncompressed 5.1 audio but they can pass through Dolby Digital 5.1 format which is compressed.

    What you need to do is tell the Xbox to output Bitstream audio via HDMI and set the Bitstream format to Dolby Digital. If you do this your TV will be able to send the 5.1 surround audio to your soundbar via its optical cable.

    Seriously, game with 720p unless your native 1080p content...

    It does if your trying to use Dolby digital with 1080p it does. The CPU has to convert the 5.1 pcm signal from the game's engine into a Dolby digital live 5.1 format also while helping with the 1080p scaling and game processing itself. Also, the scaler isn't
    its own gpu. It uses the xenos gpu to accelerate itself and upscale the 720p to 1080p. Which definitely causes input lag. When I choose digital stereo with 1080p, its as good as 720p/5.1 because the audio is 2 channel pcm that doesn't require CPU decoding.
    1080p/5.1 shouldn't be used with serious gaming unless using digital stereo.

    No Center Channel

    a quick fix I have discovered is to switch to use your TV audio connection and use Pro Logic or PL2. Its not Dolby Digital, but you still get surround. Just a work around until Microsoft updates the 5.1 audio.
